Insomniac’s Venom Spin-Off Is Still In Development

Insomniac has never officially confirmed a Venom game exists, but that hasn’t stopped years of rumors about its status, especially whether it’s already been quietly shelved. Insider NateTheHate says that’s not the case.

Posting on X on September 4, NateTheHate addressed the game’s status directly: 

Venom is very much still in development upon last check. As to when it’ll be announced, I don’t know.”

NateTheHate has called unannounced PlayStation projects correctly before they were revealed, more than once, so a short line like that carries more weight coming from him than it would from a random account.

A 2023 Leak Started All Of This

Venom’s game became public knowledge during the infamous Insomniac leak in 2023. Ransomware group Rhysida broke into the studio in December 2023 and dumped over a terabyte of internal files online. Among the files, Venom’s spin-off – listed internally as Venom: Lethal Protector – was targeting 2025. Insomniac said nothing about it then, and 2025 came and went without a peep.

The tragic passing of Tony Todd, the voice actor of Venom, started the cancellation talk. Then earlier this year, Nadji Jeter, the actor behind Miles Morales, said on a podcast that the game had been scrapped because of it. Jason Schreier denied the claim immediately within hours on ResetEra. And NateTheHate’s comment this week aligns with what Jason said.

For now, Insomniac’s public attention is on Marvel’s Wolverine, releasing September 15, with Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 also still on the studio’s plate. Venom remains the project without a confirmed spot in that lineup, but based on what insiders are saying, not a canceled one either.
