Rumored Sony Acquisition Is Allegedly “Bigger” Than Kojima Productions

There have been so many big and relatively minor investments just this year. From Microsoft purchasing Activision Blizzard to Sony buying Bungie, acquisitions have been taking place everywhere in the gaming industry. In only the first four months of 2022, we have probably seen more acquisition news than any of the previous years. Recently, there have been some rumors surrounding a purchase coming from PlayStation Studios, and the accredited industry insider, Jeff Grubb, has had his say on this topic and the information is rather exciting for players.

Jeff Grubb has recently said that the heavily rumored acquisition by Sony PlayStation is going to be “bigger” than Kojima Productions. While talking on the latest episode of his GrubbSnax podcast on the Giant Bomb channel on YouTube, the industry insider said that Kojima Productions was never in the picture and Sony is purchasing a much bigger studio, which won’t be Kojima Productions.

Most players have been speculating that this future acquisition will be of Kojima Productions. However, that is obviously not the case after what happened in the past few days. Hideo Kojima uploaded a picture on his Twitter account recently with Death Stranding present in the PlayStation Studios banner. People obviously thought that this was an official confirmation of the upcoming purchase of the company. However, that wasn’t the actual case.

Hideo Kojima clarified the whole situation after finding out how players had been misled by his post. The director went back to Twitter and quickly ended any speculation about the PlayStation Studios rumors. He clearly stated that Kojima Productions will remain an independent studio as it has been in the past. It was confusing for the players but it’s safe to say that the acquisition of Kojima Productions will not be taking place any time soon. All of this perfectly lines up with Jeff Grubb’s information about this mystery company that PlayStation Studios is acquiring.

At the moment, we don’t know what company will be acquired in this “bigger” acquisition by PlayStation Studios. Jeff Grubb gave us no hints about this upcoming acquisition but the magnitude of it does make the ordeal very gripping. Players are already speculating what this company is going to be. Names like CAPCOM and Konami are being thrown around, but all of this is just conjecture as of now. Only time will tell what actually happens and hopefully, it’s something the PlayStation players will like.
