Valve’s newly released handheld, the Steam Deck, has captured the attention of gamers everywhere with its convenient portability combined with the processing power of a modern mid-range PC. A point that’s further proven by the recent SteamDB charts showing off the success of Valve’s newest experiment.
According to the SteamDB charts for this week the Steam Deck has been on a continuous streak as the number one most sold product on Steam for 2 weeks in a row. A tremendous success and an unsurprising one at that.
Followed by Steam Deck in the charts is a surprising entry, Forza Horizon 4 which came out last year on Steam, and what’s more surprising is the newer and more well-received entry in the series, Forza Horizon 5 sits almost at the bottom on Number 8. The full chart can be seen below with some more surprising entries in the list.
Elden Ring, after a long reign at the top, is now at the bottom of the Steam Top sellers. Yet it’s impressive that it continues to remain in the limelight months after its release. While Red Dead Redemption 2 shot up to an astounding number 3 which we can assume is due to its recent sale.
Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered has held strongly within the top 5 since its release in early August, showing how much demand there is for more Sony exclusives on the PC gaming market.
As for the Steam Deck itself, it isn’t surprising to see it gaining so much success. Valve’s first foray into handheld has been widely praised for its versatility, processing power, and great customization features that let players alter their experience to their liking.
Being able to select a specific target framerate, dynamic resolution, the ability to change the settings in-game, and more makes the Steam Deck feel much closer to a portable gaming PC than a conventional handheld like the PS Vita or the Nintendo Switch.
The processing power afforded to the Steam Deck also makes it one of the best, if not the best, handheld consoles available on the market.
Having the option to not only play most of your Steam Library but also being able to emulate games (that we hope you acquired from perfectly legal sources) from the PS1 up to even the Nintendo Switch on a single system makes it a great all-in-one device for just about any game that can be played on a PC.
Good news also awaits current Steam Deck owners as Valve has announced that repair centers for the Steam Deck are now open, meaning if your Steam Deck happens to be broken or has an active issue it can be sent to one of Valve’s repair centers for free (as long as you have an active warranty) instead of having to fix it yourself.
As time goes on, we can only expect further success from Valve’s small beast of a machine.
