Here Are Some Things I Hope Don’t Return From Previous Iterations To GTA 6

The wait better be worth it.

Story Highlights

  • Grand Theft Auto 6 is the next main GTA game by Rockstar Games that’s yet to be released.
  • Easily anticipated as the game of the decade, GTA 6 could do well without the shortcomings of its predecessors.
  • A refined police system and realism-based car damage can prove to be excellent for the new GTA game.

Crossing more than 200 million views in recent memory, it’s nowhere near an exaggeration when one says that Grand Theft Auto 6 is going to be the next big thing in gaming. If it delivers upon expectations, which I will say can be a bit unfair to Rockstar Games, the title may as well reinvent gaming as a whole, but still, I wouldn’t recommend holding your breath.

Now, obviously, if you’ve been following the topic closely, there have been, let’s just say, wild expectations from the game. This is easily understandable, though, considering the scale at which Rockstar works on, and how GTA 6 is coming out more than a decade after GTA 5. But for one moment, let’s just tone things down a little, and work our way up from a ground-root level.

And that concerns talking about some of the most glaring shortcomings of GTA 6’s predecessor that stick out like a sore thumb. I genuinely hope for the forthcoming game to, if not anything else, at least improve upon these hiccups to deliver a better experience overall. Besides, it’s worth noting that earlier this year, Take-Two Interactive, which is Rockstar’s parent company, CEO Strauss Zelnick affirmed sheer confidence in the project, stating,

We’re seeking perfection. And when we feel we’ve optimized creatively, that’s the time to release.”

GTA 6 Is Much Better Off With These Curated Enhancements

Make sure to post a comment down below if you have an opinion on some of the improvements that GTA 6 can make.

The Same, Janky First-Person Mode

All right, so let’s be clear here. GTA 5 is a terrific game, but here’s one out of a few things that it does not get right: Its first-person mode. When the perspective switches from third-person, so does the excitement and thrill, transitioning your POV into a perspective that feels fairly lopsided. The mode feels like an afterthought, but hey, don’t get me wrong, I’m still very glad that Rockstar decided to make one for GTA 5.

I just wish that its successor would bring a heavily refined first-person view that would be as enjoyable as playing the game in first-person. While both modes will have their own pleasure points, having that freedom to switch back and forth between the two while knowing that high quality awaits on either front would be spectacular.

That said, the Grand Theft Auto franchise is inherently in third-person, so when I demand for first-person to be as good as the latter, I also unwantedly welcome compromises to be made on either side. No one wants that, so here’s just hoping that Rockstar does better with the feature to whatever capacity possible in GTA 6 without sacrificing the integrity of both camera perspectives.

No Checkpoints During Main Missions

Rockstar really needs to work on making checkpoints or save points more convenient for players. I remember playing through some difficult missions in GTA 4, such as The Snow Storm and Catch the Wave, but also disdainfully recall having to restart all over again whenever Niko got wasted. Sometimes, it would get so bad that you’d respawn at a point that was even before you went to the mission.

Wild.

Either Rockstar starts getting a little generous with the checkpoint system or incorporates shorter missions that are instead packed full of adrenaline. On some occasions, GTA 5 feels extremely padded, with lengthy drives from one point to another that make it all seem like a slog fest. I’d hate for GTA 6 to offer something similar. Tedious drives can otherwise hurt the replayability of the title.

A Better, More Realistic Police System

Now, you see, there are a lot of things wrong with how GTA 5 handles the way authorities pounce on you whenever you commit a felony. This particular feature right here is single-handedly the one thing that Rockstar Games absolutely needs to focus on with the sequel, and I have my hopes way up for it as well. So, for starters, LSPD is like a hawk. No matter if you kill someone in the most remote alleyway you can find, you’re bound to get your wanted stars instantly.

Cops in GTA be like.

And I mean, instantly. The police will then also know magically what you look like, where you are, and what car you drive, all of which hinges on the border of something that is extremely unrealistic

Lackluster Vehicle Damaging And Easy Recovery From An Upside Down Position

Finally, and with this being yet another QoL addition that I would absolutely adore for GTA 6 to have, cars and vehicles are one of the cornerstones of every Grand Theft Auto game, so it’s naturally assumable that a lot of effort and time should go into the making of this particular department. Unfortunately, GTA 5 is lacking on this front, offering players everything but a feasible show of vehicular damage, with little to no effect on its working unless the car gets demolished to death.

Oh, and not just that, once you flip your car over, you actually have to exit it and find another vehicle to ram it and flip it back into position. Now I would find this fun, but I understand this could get tedious long-term. A toggle that would allow you to play with this feature would work great as well.

That’s pretty much it from my side, but I’d love to hear your opinions on what GTA 6 could bring to the table.
