Drifting Options In NFS Unbound

Before creating the best car setup for drifting in the new Need for Speed game, you need first to fix a few in-game settings. You can find these settings within the Handling section of each car while you’re tuning its performance in NFS Unbound. Here you can find a few different options that include; Handling, Steering Sensitivity, Downforce, Traction Control, and Drift Entry.

Having a good drift-build car won’t solve all your problems in the Drift Events. Apart from a good car, you will also need to tweak the Handling of your vehicle in Need for Speed. Most of the options you find in the Handling section are capable of improving your drifting skills in NFS Unbound. Drifting is a skill, and to master it, you will need to grind and practice it in Lakeshore. Your car’s tuning will greatly dictate your practice phase in NFS Unbound.

Firstly you will notice the Handling option, which can be tweaked by making the bar slide to the right or the left. So what does it really do? The Handling can either be a moderate blend of Grip and Drift both. Or you could also slide it towards one of these two handling types as per your liking. Since we’re covering Drift Build for NFS Unbound, it is important that you slide the Handling bar more to the right (Drift).

Your range on the Handling sliding bar will be determined by your car’s tire, suspension, and differential. As you equip better-suited parts on your car, you will be able to slide the Handling bar further. Hence, your aim should be to go for the parts which increase the Handling range toward “Drift” rather than “Grip“.

The Steering Sensitivity can also be altered by sliding the bar either to the left or right. If you slide the bar to the Left, you will set a low steering sensitivity for your vehicle, which means that the car will turn slowly, allowing you more control. At the same time, a high steering sensitivity will make the car more responsive on the road and will be able to make quick twists and turns. Although, all of these things will come at the cost of lower stability.

Other than that, you can also tweak the Downforce of your vehicle and also switch the Traction Control to either on or off. Turning the Traction Control on will make your car more stable, although it will become a little tougher to drift while turning.

Most importantly, you will need to go through all the Drift Entry options in the Handling section of your car. It will help you decide if and when you want your car’s drift to kick in. Here are all the choices you can pick from.

  • Off: Choosing this option will completely turn off the element of drifting. If you’re someone who doesn’t want to drift around curves and is not interested in the drift events of Lakeshore, then you may turn drifting off. However, this isn’t recommended since it takes away one of the most fun aspects of the game. With drifting turned off, you will need to slow down by hitting the brakes and then make controlled turns while racing.
  • Brake Tap: Choosing the “Brake Tap” option will make your car drift whenever you tap the brake button on your controller/keyboard. It is one of the most convenient methods to drift in racing games. Although it is to be noted that you will need to quickly tap the brake button to initiate the drift, holding the button down will do no good.
  • Gas Tap: One of the most used options for drifting in NFS Unbound. By choosing the “Gas Tap” option, you will start drifting by simply letting go of the Gas button and quickly tapping it again. It is super convenient and allows the player to drift and accelerate using the same button on the controller/keyboard.
  • Gas or Brake Tap: The final option combines the previous two Drift Entry choices in NFS Unbound. This is also the default setting in the game and allows the player to use both Gas and Brake Tap methods to drift. Although, feel free to change it if it’s causing unwanted drifts.

So these were the crucial Drift Entry settings in NFS Unbound that you need to go through before you begin mastering the art of drifting. You can also change your key binds or controls mapping by going to Settings in NFS Unbound if you’re not comfortable with the default brake or gas button.

After you’re done familiarizing yourself with all the Drift related tuning in NFS Unbound, it will be time to create one of the best drift cars. When it comes to drifting, Mazda RX-7 is one of the best cars, not only in Need for Speed but also in many other racing games. Hence, we will cover an entire Drift build for the RX-7.

You can also install the parts and items we mention below to some other cars if you do not have the RX-7 just yet.

First and foremost, RX-7 will cost you around $59,500 in NFS Unbound. So if you’re planning to run this drift build on the RX-7 then you will first need to purchase it from the garage. You won’t be able to buy it right off the bat, and you will need to compete in a couple of events and accumulate money before your buy the car.

It is also important to know that to get one of the best Drift Builds in the game, and you will also need to make sure that the car has a good speed range. Without speed, your car will be unable to maintain its momentum while drifting around the corner. Hence, make sure that you have the best engine parts that you can get while customizing your Drift car.

If you’re low on cash then you can skip buying an engine for your car. You can roll with the default engine for the time being and then switch it out for something better when you have the required amount of money. Nonetheless, buying or skipping the engine is up to you; after you have dealt with that, head to the “Parts” menu.

Once at the Parts menu, buy the Elite parts for each of the following options; Induction, ECU, Exhaust, Fuel System, and Turbo Charger. You can also buy a Nitrous for your car, but it isn’t that important if you’re building your car for drifting purposes in NFS Unbound. Also, if you are low on Money, then you can also tone down some of the parts and go for the Pro or Super variants instead of the Elite version.

Here are the Chassis parts you should go for with your RX-7 Drift Build in NFS Unbound.

  • Stock Elite Suspension
  • Elite Brakes
  • Elite Tires

Even though Elite Drift Tires are available in the game, we didn’t find them to be as useful as the standard Elite Tires. Hence, many players opt to go with the Elite Standard Tires for the RX-7. Although, some cars do benefit from the Drift Tires. So, if you have spare cash, then you could also test out the Elite Tires (Drift) and see if they do the trick for you.

Here are the Drivetrain parts you need for the Drift Build in Need for Speed Unbound.

  • Elite Clutch
  • 7 Speed
  • Elite Differential

If you can’t afford some of these items, then you go for 5 Speed instead. You can also go for Pro or Super parts for the Clutch and Differential. Once you have applied all the relevant parts you can then also tune the handling for the RX-7. This section is totally based on personal preference. Although, many people like to go for low Steering Sensitivity and Gas Tap Drift Entry in NFS Unbound.

If you do not have the Mazda RX-7 or you don’t wish to purchase it in NFS Unbound, then you can run the same build for any other car of your choice. All these parts can be applied to other cars too, so if you have a Dodge Charger, Nissan 350Z, or BMW M3, then feel free to run this same drift build on them.
