Ludwig’s Inaugural Chessboxing Tournament Is History’s Most-Watched Smash Championship

Ludwig sets an all-time viewership record with the Mogul Chessboxing Championship across all his social media platforms.

On December 11, 2022, the Mogul Chessboxing Championship was live-streamed on YouTube, breaking not just the all-time Smash record, but also shroud’s best viewership across both Twitch and YouTube.

However, despite being marketed as a combination of boxing and chess, big-name streamer Ludwig Ahgren’s Mogul Chessboxing Championship unintentionally became the most-watched Smash tournament ever, beating even EVO 2019.

For those unfamiliar with the concept, contestants effectively compete in Melee or chess before fighting in boxing. Fights later on the card were all chess-themed, while prelims featured Smash. They fight until one of them has three wins in Melee or one win in chess.

Moreover, players competed in alternating rounds of boxing and either Super Smash Bros Melee or regular chess in the Galen Center in Los Angeles during this extraordinarily successful live stream.

The live stream had almost 270k views. In comparison, EVO 2019, the now-second-most-watched Smash Tournament, had a peak viewership of 245k on Twitch.

Ludwig’s Mogul Chessboxing Championship has justifiably won the title of the most-watched Super Smash Bros competition.
