Dead Space Remake’s “1 GB” Day One Patch Is Optional To Download

The file size is only 1 GB and you can play the game without downloading it.

Story Highlights

  • A day-one patch has come out for the Dead Space remake, and it is only 1GB.
  • Downloading it is also optional, and you can play the remake without it.
  • EA and Motive Studio did not inform about the patch.
  • The patch is likely to be for bug fixes and minor updates.

Remakes aren’t always fan favorites, but the Dead Space remake has exceeded expectations and won the players over. Its initial score hit 90 on Metacritic, and reviews have been singing praises of the remake from EA. The game apparently also has a day-one patch that you can download before playing.

However, it is optional, and you can launch the Dead Space remake and kill Necromorphs without it. This patch only has a file size of 1 GB, so you won’t have a lot of trouble if you want to download it.

Unlike other industries, gaming has had better luck remaking old video games. A big reason for that is game remakes don’t change the fundamentals of what made the older titles successful. Instead, they just upgrade them to the current-gen with modern graphics and some story changes.

The Resident Evil remakes are one example of this, as they keep the original’s foundation and add some new things to strengthen it. EA Motive’s Dead Space Remake is a title made on these same principles. Besides an alternate ending and some minor changes, it has everything the 2008 original had.

Critical scores and fan reception for the remake have been through the roof after the review embargo was lifted. With the official release happening today, the game may top the charts come next week. But fans will have to download the Dead Space remake and play it before any of that happens.

Its file size is not too large, as it is only 31.103 GB which is pretty low when compared to current-gen standards. However, there is also a day-one patch that players can download for the Dead Space remake. There was no announcement of this patch beforehand, but as it turns out, the game does have one.

Lance McDonald on Twitter shared a screenshot of this patch with the masses. In it, you can see a separate download to the main game on his PlayStation 5. And this download is for the day-one patch of the Dead Space remake.

Downloading depends on you, as the patch is optional, and you can play the horror game without it. However, with a minimal size of 1.167 GB, we bet most players won’t mind downloading it. Titled update 1.000.002, this launch day patch will download automatically if you are online.

Neither Electronic Arts nor developer Motive has told us what this launch day update is about. Our best guess is that it will be for bug fixes and some minor things. Reviewers must have given their feedback to EA regarding the Dead Space remake, and this small patch could be a response to that.

You can play the Dead Space remake, with or without downloading this patch, right now, as it is officially out. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC are the platforms getting the survival game. Hopefully, your download won’t take a lot of time, so you can play this remake soon.
