New Dragon’s Dogma 2 News Could Be Coming Soon, Hints Director

Hideaki Itsuno is currently immersed in the game's production, and hopes to give players some info as soon as possible.

Role-playing games have had a chokehold on gamers since the 1970s. The trend started with pen-and-paper games like Dungeons & Dragons and has been kept up by legendary modern franchises like Dark Souls, Elder Scrolls, and Final Fantasy. Another contemporary entry in the genre which is worthy of note is Dragon’s Dogma from Capcom.

First released in 2012, the action RPG has sold 4.4 million copies across six platforms and two versions (including the enhanced Dark Arisen) as of 2020. So, a sequel was a no-brainer for the RPG after such a successful outing. Now, the director has said that he will hopefully reveal some info about Dragon’s Dogma 2 as soon as possible.

Major Takeaways

  • Dragon’s Dogma 2 is progressing well, according to director Hideaki Itsuno.
  • We will hear an update about the game as soon as possible, says Itsuno.
  • He is immersed in the production, so much so that he doesn’t know what season it is.

Famitsu is responsible for giving us this great piece of info. The publication held a series of end-of-year interviews with creators of popular upcoming games. One of these interviewees was the director of Dragon’s Dogma 2, Hideaki Itsuno, who gave us some interesting info.

Itsuno said that he has been “immersed” in the production of the sequel. He has been working tirelessly as the director said he has no sense of what season it is. So, it’s safe to say he has complete focus and is working hard on Dragon’s Dogma 2:

I’m currently immersed in the production of Dragon’s Dogma 2, so much so that I’m losing my sense of what season it is.”

What he said next, however, is of real interest to us. Hideaki Itsuno gave us some much-needed info about the production and said it is going well. The director also wants to share some info about Dragon’s Dogma 2 very soon

Itsuno said that he hopes to further the development of the game so he can share an update. Dragon’s Dogma 2 has been progressing well, as he has said, so hopefully, this update is not a long time long away. The full quote from Hideaki Itsuno went like this:

Things are moving along well, so I hope to further our development progress so that we can share an update with you as soon as possible.”

We first got a confirmation that the game was in development in the June of this year. Hideaki Itsuno took to the Dragon’s Dogma YouTube channel in a special live stream reflecting on the game’s 10 years. In this video, he announced that the sequel, Dragon’s Dogma 2, was officially in development.

Nothing else about the sequel is of common knowledge as of yet. After the video announcement telling us that Dragon’s Dogma 2 was in the works at Capcom has been radio silence. We do know that Hideaki Itsuno is using the RE Engine to develop the game, but nothing else.

Dragon’s Dogma is akin to being Itsuno’s “baby,” as he was the one who came up with the idea of the franchise. He started working at Capcom in 2000 and finally got the chance to realize his artistic vision nearly a decade later. To see him working hard on the game is all the confidence we need for Dragon’s Dogma.

You can play the first game on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and Windows. It has two editions, the enhanced Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen and the base game. Hopefully, you can pass the time playing the brilliant RPG before we hear about the sequel from Hideaki Itsuno.
