Dragon’s Dogma 2’s In-Game World Is 4 Times The Size Of The Predecessor

The game comes out later this month.

Story Highlights

  • Dragon’s Dogma 2 is an upcoming JRPG by Capcom and a sequel to the first Dragon’s Dogma from 2012.
  • The game, as per the director of the project Hideaki Itsuno, will feature a four times bigger map than the prequel.
  • Capcom is confident with the volume of the game’s contents as it looks forward to its full release soon.

Capcom is evidently progressing in full sail as it looks forward to launching Dragon’s Dogma 2 later in the month for modern-day platforms, easily being one of the biggest RPGs of the year. Although the title has gathered a fair bit of hype to its name over the course of its announcement, director Hideaki Itsuno has expanded on the map size of the sequel, confirming how it’s substantially bigger than the first Dragon’s Dogma.

We always say that the map in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is four times the size of the previous one, but we haven’t measured it exactly, and the development team believes it to be much larger. The number of towns has increased dramatically too.

There are two large countries, with various settlements within them. However, rather than the size of the map, we placed a much stronger emphasis on its density. We’ve gone through numerous adjustments of the map, making sure to eliminate tedious time spent moving through the field,” says Itsuno.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Is Looking A Lot More Than Just Promising

And that’s just one detail that was talked about in the interview by the Dragon’s Dogma 2 director. Another highly interesting point that’s managed to grab my attention is the concept of “death” in the forthcoming JRPG.

If there’s an NPC you care for in a town, you will need to protect them as you fight, or hold them and run,” confirms the Capcom frontman. This certainly adds a ton of depth to the title on its own, instilling a real sense of “adventure” as players begin to really put effort into preserving their experiences. Having played through the first game, I just cannot fathom how big of an upgrade Dragon’s Dogma 2 is going to be.
