The Redditor, who goes by the username “BirdonWheels” shared the video, and it quickly grabbed Horizon fans’ attention. The post got deleted by the mods but the video is still there.

OP says in the comments that the alpha build is an old one and is from the summer of 2020, which probably means Horizon multiplayer has gone under massive development by now.

If you watch the gameplay footage, the art style is more like Fortnite, and unlike the single-player Horizon games, the multiplayer’s graphics seem more bent toward a cartoonish style. Within the footage, we notice a number of characters and an open-world environment. The players also get attacked by a variety of machine-like characters.

The alpha build is from the summer of 2020, so nothing can be said concretely about how much the final product will match the leaked build. However, in the comment section, the leaker shares the concept art of the game and says the final product might look more like that.

The leaked build got boosted by a well-known gaming figure on Twitter, “Rebs Gaming.” Rebs notified about deleting their tweet and said they’ve talked with the leaker. He is developing a cheat engine that will allow the early multiplayer build to load in weaponry from the game. He will then share more images/footage.

Early builds help the players look more into how the game looks in its initial development stages and how advanced it gets later on. This alpha build, however, does not describe the final title since games go through massive changes during the course of development over the years.

Furthermore, this Horizon Forbidden West multiplayer has been confirmed by Guerrilla Games through some job listings. Alongside this multiplayer project, Guerrilla Games is occupied by the announced DLC expansion of Horizon Forbidden West coming in April and the VR spin-off Horizon Call of the Mountain is set to launch alongside PSVR 2 next month.

Some more information about the multiplayer project that we’ve taken out of the job listings Guerrilla Games posted is that the game might feature a “deep complex story” as taken from the Narrative Designer post.

The combat will be powerful as well as the Lead Combat Designer will “oversee the development of multiple playable characters, their combat abilities, a variety of enemies (machines and humanoid), and a variety of combat systems.”

The machine-like characters we saw in the gameplay will also go through next-level development as the post for Senior Machine Combat Designer; the developers hope to “design, change and update behaviors of existing iconic machines of the Horizon franchise as well as design to introduce new machines.”

Furthermore, via MP1st’s sources, the multiplayer game will be released for PlayStation 5 and PC. Though MP1ST is unsure of the specifics, it might offer co-op and customization centered on the game world’s current tribes.
