Shinji Mikami is a Japanese video game designer, director, and producer who started working at Capcom in 1990, he has worked on many of the company’s most successful games. He directed the first installment of the Resident Evil series in 1996 and would later go on to direct the first The Evil Within game. He recently teased in a Facebook post that ‘The Evil Within 3’ could be in development.
When translated into English, it translates to: “Psycho Break, Maybe we’ll be back.” For those who don’t know, in Japan, the title for The Evil Within is actually Psycho Break, which would mean that Shinji is directly referencing the game instead of something that might have been cryptic. It’s also possible that a new game is only being considered, but isn’t yet committed to. The Evil Within 2 and Hi-Fi Rush notably had John Johanas as director while Mikami served as executive producer.
There does exist one problem in this rumor, the fact that Shinji is no longer working at Tango. Although he left on good terms, this might mean that the IP may be shifting to some other company or the same team at Tango is in the proposal stages with Shinji for the new Evil Within title or quite possibly, a spin-off in the same universe.
We can confirm that Shinji Mikami has decided to leave Tango Gameworks in the coming months. We thank him for his work as a creative leader and supportive mentor to young developers of The Evil Within franchise, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and, of course, Hi-Fi Rush.

Some fans are already speculating what the new game could have instore lore-wise, with some having prominent theories regarding the ending of the second game and some plot holes that were never addressed during the events of the franchise.
REALLY hope this means we get answers as to Ruvik/Leslie’s whereabouts and what really happened to Joseph (the last game teased he wasn’t actually killed).
There have also been small teasers in Hifi Rush 2 for a new horror game and some light tweets and rumors from developers as well, but at the moment we have nothing concrete to work with. Although fans are hoping for a true conclusion to the trilogy, the chances of a new title in the franchise still seem slim at best.
