Ghost Of Tsushima Has The Highest Number Of Gameplay Hours As A PS+ Game

Players have spent the most time playing the samurai title on the Sony online service.

Story Highlights

  • Ghost of Tsushima has been played for the most hours on PlayStation Plus, with Stray amassing the most players.
  • As per Nick Maguire, the new version of the service has clocked a billion hours in a year with Premium getting more subscribers than Extra.

In a new interview with GamesIndustry, PlayStation’s head of subscriptions Nick Maguire revealed that Ghost Tsushima has accumulated the most gameplay hours out of all the titles on PlayStation Plus. The Sucker Punch game has brought many players to the new version of PS Plus, with people getting really invested in the game as per Maguire.

Ghost of Tsushima has brought in the highest number of hours of gameplay. People have really stuck around and really invested in that game. That goes to the strength of our PS Studios titles, which have seen great engagement and lots of excitement.”

While talking to GIBiz, the vice-president of PlayStation revealed some other interesting info about PlayStation Plus. Since the service relaunch last June, players have clocked in a billion hours playing games from the PS Plus catalog according to Nick Maguire. Furthermore, users have spent 7x as much time on the new edition of the service as they did on PlayStation Now.

Besides Ghost of Tsushima, Maguire also highlighted some other standout games in the service. Dead By Daylight, The Legend of Dragoon, Rainbow Six Siege, and Stray have all been attractive prospects for PlayStation Plus. BluwTwelve Studios’ Stray has brought in the most players to the online service in the last 12 months as per the head of subscriptions.

In addition, PlayStation Studio titles have been a big hit on PlayStation Plus with four of the top ten most played games on the service in the last year being first-party titles. Namely, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Horizon Forbidden West, and Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart have been continuously growing on PS Plus alongside Ghost of Tsushima according to Maguire,

Stray has brought in the highest number of players that have accessed that title over the first 12 months. Four of the top ten over the year have been PS Studios titles, whether that’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Horizon Forbidden West and even Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, which only joined recently – that’s climbing very quickly and growing month-on-month. These exclusive titles are really what’s resonating. It’s bringing people in.”

The PlayStation head of subscriptions also revealed that PlayStation 5 has been the biggest platform for the service, beating PlayStation 4. Moreover, the company is sticking to its strategy of launching first-party games on PlayStation Plus a year or two after release despite how popular they have been. Nick Maguire did say that day-and-date releases like Stray will still happen, but just not for first-party games.

Another surprising stat the vice president revealed was how PlayStation Plus Premium has more subscribers than Extra. Everyone, including him, thought that Extra would gain more players but the reality has been a pleasant surprise to him. Furthermore, the engagement in the first has been more than Maguire expected and the head of subscriptions said they are always brainstorming how they can keep the service relevant.

I was personally surprised that Premium has ended up being a bigger share of the base than Extra. It’s now about finding how we add new features that players want… how do we keep the service relevant, make it more valuable and bring more people in.”

The three tiers of PlayStation Plus are available for purchase at $59.99, $99.99, and $119.99 respectively.
