Major Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Spoilers Are Running Rampant

Exercise extreme caution if you’re a die-hard Marvel’s Spider-Man fanatic. I’m not sure how, but major, I repeat, absolutely major Spider-Man 2 spoilers have seeped their way online, highlighting the pivotal points of the upcoming sequel’s storyline, and practically spoiling the whole thing. I’m not going to be that guy and ruin the game for you, of course, but those of you keen on feeding their curiosity, read ahead. 

For starters, the following post on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit contains downloadable links to the game’s final boss fight, whomever with that may be. Viewing the post alone will spill the beans for you, so I highly advise proceeding with caution from here on out. Evidently, Insomniac planned a lot more than what we expected from Spider-Man 2 and judging from the leaked clips, we’re in for quite the ride.

If witnessing the final boss fight along with the post-credits scene that hints at the future of PlayStation’s Marvel’s Spider-Man IP—whether we can expect a sequel or not—still doesn’t suffice, there’s another post on the same subreddit that details everything that happens in between the story events of Spider-Man 2. Again, the post’s description contains explanations for each viewable clip. Once you uncover the spoiler protection, there’s no heading back.

In all fairness, this is certainly an undesirable scenario. The way Insomniac’s been talking about its latest venture, along with the sheer marketing behind the project, is all indicative of the work and passion poured into Spider-Man 2. However, having the most prominent parts of the game get posted online unsupervised merely a week before its release is surely a damaging prospect, one that I hope would get as minimized as possible over the course of the next few days.

Note: Spoiler territory from here on out. We will now go through of the major Spider-Man 2 leaks that went live in recent times.

In case you missed it, another Spider-Man 2 leak seemingly confirmed the return of an iconic Spider-Man villain early on in the game. As per the dialogue initiated by Peter, it seems that we’ll be fighting Sandman in one of the opening sequences of the title. But, of course, that’s nothing compared to facing off against Scream — one of the various symbiotes in the Marvel Comics universe — as the alien takes over Mary Jane’s body. 

As for some of the other leaks that popped up as of late, most of the suits featured in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for both Peter and Miles are now available to view, followed by open-world gameplay footage that sees one of the Spider-Men gliding across New York City in full flight. However, we do admit that the latter pretty much pales in comparison to what appeared on the internet today concerning the game. 

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be released for the PlayStation 5 on October 20, 2023, with no cross-gen support for the PlayStation 4 nor any early access period, even for those who buy the Digital Deluxe Edition of the open-world title. The game was initially announced back at the PlayStation Showcase in 2021, and finally got on to receive a release date during the Summer Game Fest three months ago.
