PS5 Exclusivity Played A Key Role In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s Success, Says Producer

The dev discusses how Rebirth benefited from relying on a single platform.

Story Highlights

  • The producer Yoshinori Kitase has discussed how Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth benefited from PS5 exclusivity.
  • He mentions that the game would have regressed considerably if it released on multiple consoles.
  • The seamlessness of the open world and game design was only achieved by relying on the PS5 hardware.

The Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth producer and original FF7 game director Yoshinori Kitase has recently explained how the new remake has benefited from PS5 exclusivity. During an interview with The Washington Post, Kitase clarified that releasing the game on multiple platforms would have caused the game design and open world to regress significantly. Moreover, the world map bustling with activity would not have been as seamless.

Had it not been on a single platform, the world map would not be seamless, and game design may have had to regress significantly,” said Yoshinori Kitase.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is filled with a lot of fun moments that give it more life compared to the first remake. Part 1 featured mystifying yet barren green grasslands that were quite a point of contention among fans. I reckon the main reason behind the massive difference had to do with its release on the last-gen platforms instead of a single console.

Final Fantasy 7 Is A Majestic Reimagining Of The Classic

The newly released remake has utilized the PS5 hardware to its fullest extent. As a result, the final product is arguably nothing short of a leading contender for this year’s GOTY. It exceeds expectations by amplifying the nostalgia with an indelible story that is further embued with gripping combat. Additionally, huge amounts of mini-games sprawling the open-world experience will also keep you busy.

In some related news, FF7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi said that “key elements” of Part 3 are already coming together.
