Saber Interactive Wants To Exceed Expectations With Upcoming KOTOR Remake

The studio's CEO says the project is "alive and well."

Story Highlights

  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is a classic RPG released way back in 2003 for consoles and PC.
  • The game was greenlit for a modernized remake in the past, with a teaser of it shown off in 2021.
  • After a long period of silence, the project’ dev reaffirms that work on the remake continues.

The story of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ever since the initial announcement of the project in 2021. It’s said to have been canceled so many times, I’ve lost count, and the same goes for rumors that claimed the project is still alive.

Anyhow, Saber Interactive, the studio allegedly developing the remake, has officially confirmed the existence of the remake in recent times, affiliating it with something that the developer plans to work on to the full. Speaking to IGN, the CEO of the studio, Matthew Karch, shed light on Knights of the Old Republic’s remake, saying,

It’s clear and it’s obivous that we’re working on this,” he said. “It’s been in the press numerous times. What I will say is that the game is alive and well, and we’re dedicated to making sure we exceed consumer expectations.”

To get you a little up to speed on recent developments pertaining to the remake in question, it all started in 2023 when rumors started to spring up about the game’s internal cancellation. Embracer, the publisher of the IP at the time, however, pushed out an earnings report in May, confirming that the project is still under active development.

Fast-forward to November that year, and things started to exacerbate, given how Embracer went radio silent on Knights of the Old Republic’s remake, refusing to comment on the game’s status, and some insiders claiming that the game has indeed been sunsetted. So, yeah, it’s definitely been wildly up and down on this front, but let’s see if Saber actually decides to breathe life into the RPG this time around.
