Despite Early Access, Starfield Has Crossed 234,000 Concurrent Players On Steam

Off to a good launch.

Story Highlights

  • As far as one of the most anticipated releases of the year is concerned, Starfield has taken the cake and gobbled it all up. This is Bethesda’s highly ambitious project, and it’s set in space, thereby promising a grand adventure at the very least.
  • The game comes out on September 6 officially, but starting today, those who got the Constellation or the Premium Edition of the space RPG can start playing. This was one of the perks of pre-ordering one of the advanced editions of Starfield.
  • Despite the game being in its early access phase, Starfield has still attracted a fairly sizable audience on Steam, amassing more than 234,000 players concurrently. We’re yet to visualize the full scale of Starfield’s launch, which is due on 6 September.

Starfield’s momentum currently has no equal, as Bethesda’s 25-years-in-the-making space RPG has unlocked its early access phase for many around the world. Despite the full release of the game being a week away from now more or less, about 234,000 players have gathered on Steam to enjoy Starfield’s diverse offerings concurrently, as shown by SteamDB.

Keep in mind that the official release of Starfield is on 6 September, so what we see now is a chunk of the full supposed picture. The 234,502 concurrent player peak was recorded no more than a couple of hours after the title’s early access was up and live. The anticipation for the space RPG appears to be through the roof right now, given how it’s started to gather strong figures ahead of time.

The user count amounting right now on Steam is only from the game’s Premium or Constellation Edition. To talk about the latter, this is a specialized $300 variant of the title that comes with a whole swath of extra goodies, including a steelbook display case, a themed wearable watch, a skin pack, and a digital artbook, among other tasty stuff.

Here’s a list of all that’s included in the Constellation Edition, as per the official listing:

  • Starfield Base Game
  • Shattered Space Story Expansion (upon release)
  • Up to 5 days early access*
  • Constellation Skin Pack: Equinox Laser Rifle, Spacesuit, Helmet and Boost Pack
  • Access to Starfield Digital Artbook & Original Soundtrack
  • Steelbook Display Case
  • Constellation Patch
  • Starfield Chronomark Watch and Case
  • Credit Stick with Laser-Etched Game Code

In other news, Todd Howard—the Bethesda frontman and executive producer—took to the unofficial Starfield subreddit himself and addressed the community prior to the game’s launch in an encouraging fashion. He called aspiring gamers the “smartest fans” and thanked them for all the support they’ve been doling out since the initial days of Starfield.

Hey everyone! Long time lurker here. A quick THANK YOU for your passion and excitement for Starfield. I can remember when this sub started, and as it’s grown, your excitement has fueled all of us at Bethesda. We like to say we have gaming’s smartest fans, and you certainly are. Starfield has been a labor of love for us and the fact that all of you care enough to build a community around it means the world to us. We can’t wait for you to play.”

At the time of writing, Starfield has acquired an 87 Metascore on Xbox Series X, and a tad higher—88—on PC. These are strong ratings that signal a tight future for the game. Speaking of which, Bethesda’s marketing head Pete Hines has expressed earlier how he hasn’t even come close to seeing everything in the game despite playing over 150 hours. Starfield will apparently sort fans out for a considerable while.

Lastly, watch out for Starfield gameplay leaks that are seemingly pouring in left and right these days. In case you wish to go into the game blindly without spoiling a single sliver of the RPG, stay cautious of your social media feeds. Although Starfield has become playable in its early access period imparted from either the Premium or Constellation edition, others are still waiting for the global release.
