Starfield Was 2023’s Only Single-Player Game To Appear In Top Ten Average MAU List

The title secretly dominated the single-player genre last year.

Story Highlights

  • Per a new report, Starfield was 2023’s only single-player title in the top ten average MAU list.
  • Many multiplayer and live-service titles hogged the rest of the spots across all platforms.
  • It achieved the massive feat despite losing over 95% of its player count five months after release.

According to the recent Newzoo report, Bethesda Game Studios’ Starfield became last year’s only single-player game and the sole new IP to appear in the top ten average MAU list (thanks, @HazzadorGamin). The rest of the entries were either multiplayer or live service, leaving the new space-faring RPG as one of its kind. Fortnite was the top performer among these, followed by the usual dominators in the industry.

Multiplayer titles, including GTA 5, Counter-Strike 2, Roblox, Minecraft, and the sort, took the other spots. Starfield was certainly an outlier, as per the report. Even other single-player hits of last year—like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Baldur’s Gate 3—are nowhere to be seen across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox ecosystems. On the flip side, Switch has a few exclusive single-player titles on the top ten list.

Starfield Is A Motley Of Hits And Misses That Are Worth Experiencing

The AAA RPG came out to split reviews last year. One side appreciated the game’s aesthetic visuals with fun shipbuilding mechanics, while others raised concerns about the strings of loading screens sewn into every enjoyable feature. Despite its quirks, it is quite a fun venture spanning across various planets.

The startling feat has left many gamers completely astonished. All the news about the RPG losing its active players would have never made this outcome seem feasible. To put things into perspective, Starfield lost over 97% of its player base only five months after its release. The dwindling yet loyal spacefarers have played a major role in making this achievement possible.
