Garfield is one of the most famous cartoons of all time. Originally gaining fame through a comic strip, the character has now become a worldwide figure. It’s difficult to find any child who hasn’t watched a Garfield cartoon or read the comic strip. From comics to movies the cat has made it to every form of media. So, it’s no surprise that the lazy cat is also setting its paws in the gaming industry.
French publisher Microids is making three new Garfield games. The studio has made a deal with ViacomCBS to make three new adventures for Garfield. The developer has just struck a partnership with Viacom and hopes it will be successful. The companies announced no further details.
In a press release, Microids director Alain Milly talked about this new project. The director said that he is thrilled by this new agreement between the companies. He also said that Garfield fits the company’s portfolio of a famous and family-friendly property. The studio has previously worked on such popular franchises and Garfield will join that list. Its an honor to work with ViacomCBS according to him and the collaboration is incredible.
Microids have already made two Garfield games for ViacomCBS. Garfield: Wild Ride and Garfield: Kart Furious were two successful collaborations between the studios. Unlike other Garfield games, these two were met with a positive reception. So, Microids getting the next three game is no surprise.
The developer has made games on other family-friendly properties before. It recently published The Smurfs: Mission Vileaf on consoles and PC. The game is fun to play and received a positive response from the players. So, fans hope that the Garfield games will get similar treatment. If they are anything like Mission Vileaf, this project will be fruitful.
The Garfield franchise hasn’t had much luck in the gaming industry. It has been a huge success on TV and the big screen. But, the games are painfully mediocre. The franchise has many games on windows and consoles but all of them got mild success. Most are relatively unknown and no games have been made for the current generation consoles. Except the two Microids games, all of them have failed badly. So, we hope the next games are better than what the franchise had done before.
The fans hope the next three games by Microids will be better because of their work on other properties. The industry needs some good Garfield games and hopefully Microids can deliver them.
