An Even Bigger Studio Acquisition Is On The Horizon

There has been a blitz of acquisitions recently in the gaming world. Microsoft broke the internet when they acquired Activision for $70 billion. Only yesterday, Sony purchased Bungie for a whopping $3.8 billion. The studio responsible for Destiny will now be under Sony Entertainment. Take-Two also bought Zynga this month. You might think that these many acquisitions are enough for a year. But, this is nothing compared to the acquisition coming soon.

While talking on his YouTube podcast, Jeff Grubb said that an even more significant acquisition is on the horizon. Grubb said that “it takes two to tango,” and anything is possible now. Mike Minotti quickly noted that he isn’t teasing Take-Two interactive. But, something big is happening soon.

According to Grubb, the prices of these companies are only going to increase. The inflation factor will come into play in the years ahead. So, this is a great time to buy studios if you have money to spend. As a result, we are seeing so many acquisitions said, Grubb.

Some fans speculate Grubb could be teasing EA on his podcast. EA did publish It Takes Two last year. So, it’s not out of the realms of possibility. But these are only speculations from excited players, so take it with a pinch of salt.

It does fit well with the acquisition Grubb is describing. EA has some internationally famous IPs under its belt, and anyone buying it will be a big thing. But, this is only a fan conjecture as of now. No one knows much about this. Grubb has since clarified that he was not teasing Take Two or Hazelight.

Grubb knows for sure that we are going to see more and more studios being purchased. The market right now is built for such acquisitions, according to Grubb. More and more studios will buy developers if they have the money. More studio heads will be looking to cash in their IPs and become billionaires. So, these upcoming months and years will be fascinating for the gaming world.
