- The discovery suggests that Steam Deck could be able to run Android titles in the future.
As per a new report, Valve could secretly be working on adding an Android emulator to Steam. The prolific SteamVR dataminer, Brad Lynch on Twitter, and his team accidentally stumbled upon a mention of the Waydroid Android emulator, which was hidden deep in the files. He concluded that Waydroid—the container-based tool that lets you run a complete Android system within a Linux system—could be integrated into Steam in the future.
A database update on Steam saw two new artworks, one of which was for Waydroid. It has also not been used anywhere else, which suggests possible rebranding in the future. The info that has been discovered is relatively public, but you need proficient dataminers who can dig that stuff up. In other words, it’s not something that would be illegal to share with the public. Regardless, it’s unclear what exactly Valve is doing behind the scenes.
Android Games May Arrive On Steam Deck In The Future
It’s worth noting that the Waydroid Android emulator could be in the works specifically for Steam Deck since its OS is based on Linux. It also does not use Nvidia but rather relies on AMD or Intel chips. We know that the handheld also uses AMD Ryzen’s chips. Since Android support for Windows 11 is ending in 2025, Valve could be preparing ahead of time to deal with the repercussions and allow Android games to run on the portable.

All in all, it is best to take the rumor with a pinch of salt. Valve has not officially commented on the matter, and it may just prove to be a nothing burger in the future.
