The Call of Duty franchise has dominated the FPS genre in the gaming sphere. Although, the series of engaging titles has seen ups and downs in recent years due to not innovating in its formulas. Players had higher expectations from Call of Duty: Vanguard, which, unfortunately, ended as a stale installment.
With the concurrent player base steadily declining in Call of Duty: Vanguard, players have been carving the allure that old games provided. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is highly anticipated to reclaim the lost crown that the series once held.
It was expected that the upcoming installment would be under Sony Corporation’s umbrella. However, in the company’s recent Corporate Strategy Meeting, Sony Corporation unveiled the marketing deals that they have to serve for both current and upcoming games, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was not in the forenamed titles.

It is quite a surprising turn of events since Call of Duty always had some kind of exclusivity contract with Sony Corporation’s PlayStation consoles. The deals usually incorporated timed exclusivity for expansions and game modes. Nonetheless, last year’s deal for Call of Duty: Vanguard only retained seasonal Combat Packs and extra XP events, signaling to decline in mutual assurance.
As per Sony Corporation’s recent meeting, the company doesn’t seem to own a marketing deal for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for this year. The upcoming installment is likely shaking hands with Xbox Game Studios for exclusivity deals. Considering the colossal acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft Corporation, it’s not much of a stunner.
There isn’t much to worry about for a casual player because Call of Duty games will still dwell on the PlayStation roster for a couple of years, thanks to past existing agreements. Many are now envisioning the exclusive content to appear on Xbox consoles instead. Regardless, none of this information has been affirmed officially by either company thus far.
According to sources from the accredited industry insider, Tom Henderson, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 campaign is to be unveiled in early June “at an event when E3 was meant to be.” Whereas, the multiplayer reveal for the upcoming installment is planned for August
