Blizzard Entertainment is one of the biggest companies in the gaming world. As you would expect, the company has made headlines this year with successful releases like Overwatch 2 and Diablo Immortal. However, it has not always been in the good books this year as Blizzard has had a lot of Bad PR from stopping workers from unionizing to the launch of Overwatch 2.
Now, with Diablo IV around the corner, the focus is again on the company in line for a groundbreaking acquisition. Unsurprisingly though, Blizzard has again gotten some bad press after revealing the game’s limited collector’s edition. The sequel’s collector’s edition comes at a hefty price of $96.66, but without one main item: The game.
Major Takeaways
- Diablo IV’s collector’s edition will release without a copy of the game.
- Priced at $96.66, the limited edition comes with a lot of cool stuff.
- According to the live stream, Blizzard has done this to give more flexibility to players in buying the actual game.
In a new live stream, Director Joe Shely and Designer/ Associate Director Joe Piepiora revealed some details about the game. When the directors were going over the limited collector’s edition of Diablo IV, they made a surprising admission. This edition of the RPG actually comes without a copy of the base game inside.
Seeing such a pricey edition of Diablo IV come without the actual product is a bit weird, to say the least. But, the host actually had a pretty reasonable explanation for this new marketing innovation from Blizzard. Normally, such editions sell for $200 or above, $400 if you are talking about the recent Final Fantasy XVI collector’s edition.
Hence even though paying that price and not getting a game is unusual, it’s not an unfair deal. According to the host, it also allows the fans to mix and match what edition of Diablo IV they want with the collector’s edition. Usually, you get an Ultimate or Deluxe version of the game inside such packages.
But in this case, you can just get the Standard edition of Diablo IV. If you don’t want the digital goodies or just don’t want to overspend on a deluxe edition, you don’t have to. Hence, this move from Blizzard Entertainment gives fans a bit of flexibility with how they spend their money.
After all this talk about pricing, we have to tell you what you actually get in this collector’s edition. We start with the coolest item in the package: an electric candle. This electric candle shows off both Lilith and Inarius on it, who are major players in the Diablo IV story.
You will also obtain a cloth map of the place where all Diablo games take place: Sanctuary. Another item representing an important part of the game is a pin of the Horadrim Brotherhood. Director Joe Shelly said that this brotherhood will play a key role in Diablo IV.
Moving on, the limited collector’s edition also includes an Art Book which contains over 300 pages. This is filled with artwork from Diablo IV and fans will certainly enjoy its aesthetic. Last but not least, buyers will also get two Art prints, which complete this Collector’s Edition.
Keep in mind, you will not get any in-game digital items from this collector’s edition. For that, you have to purchase the Digital Deluxe or Ultimate editions. They come with digital resources like the Seasonal Battle Pass, Temptation Mount, Hellborn Carapace Mount, the Wings of the Creator Emote, and much more if your pre-order.
So, even though Blizzard’s decision to release a collector’s edition without a game might be different, it certainly gives players more freedom.
The rest is up to you to decide when Diablo IV releases on June 6, 2023, on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. Hopefully, the actual game besides the Collector’s Edition is also good, which you can purchase on the Blizzard Gear Store.
