Story Highlights
- EA, in its Q3 FY23 Financial Results report, has confirmed that FIFA 23 is on schedule to become the biggest, most successful title in the history of the EA Sports FIFA franchise.
- This is a video game series that seemingly spans a colossal 30 games in total, starting from the very first FIFA International Soccer to the latest FIFA 23.
- EA has also reported that FIFA 23 had the highest amount of engagement in Q3 out of any other FIFA game.
Sure, FIFA 23 had been topping sales charts around the world not long after its release, but no one anticipated that things were proceeding on such a grand scale.
It appears that FIFA 23 just might be going down in the history books for being the most successful FIFA game to date. The publisher has explicitly stated the following in its recently published Q3 FY23 Financial Results report.
EA SPORTS FIFA 23 is pacing to be the biggest title in franchise history and delivered record engagement in Q3.
Nothing but a praiseworthy send-off to the EA Sports FIFA franchise, as the long-running series comes to a close and EA renames the brand to EA Sports FC moving forward.
Earlier last year, EA also claimed that the game had the best launch in franchise history. More than 10 million players jumped onto the popular sports simulator during the first week of FIFA 23’s release. Nick Wlodyka, EA Sports FC General Manager, said the following in an official press release.
The response from our fans has been nothing short of incredible, and we’re thrilled that our community is playing with their favourite players and teams across FIFA 23 in record numbers.”
The game even outsold Modern Warfare 2 this one time during Black Friday, although we’ll have to admit that the discounted deals did most of the work here, boosting sales up to 95%. This was at the time of the upcoming FIFA 2022 World Cup as well, creating even more hype around the game and making fans dive into the purchase.
EA Sports FIFA 23 is the last time a football game by EA will come with a “FIFA” label. The two companies are parting ways over licensing issues, as FIFA announced how it’s set to widen its gaming portfolio and venturing forward to create non-simulation FIFA games in the future. At the time, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, said,
I can assure you that the only authentic, real game that has the FIFA name will be the best one available for gamers and football fans. The FIFA name is the only global, original title. FIFA 23, FIFA 24, FIFA 25 and FIFA 26, and so on – the constant is the FIFA name and it will remain forever and remain THE BEST.”
The relationship between the two giants has concluded after 30 years of constant EA Sports FIFA titles development, beginning in 1993 and ending, therefore, in 2023.
In other news, which is relatively more on the sad side, Apex Legends Mobile and Battlefield Mobile will no longer continue to be in active development. This decision was also part of the earnings call and will be kicked into motion on the designated date for Apex Legends Mobile, which is getting sunsetted on May 1, 2023.
