Destiny 2 Crosses 300,000 Concurrent Players Following Lightfall’s Launch

On Tuesday, Destiny 2 trumped its three years old record of peak concurrent players on Steam. As seen on SteamDB, there were more than 316k players playing the game concurrently.

This coincides with the release of what will eventually be the game’s last expansion, Destiny 2: Lightfall. This is evidence of the game’s popularity among the community.

This is also the first time the game has crossed the milestone of 300k concurrent players on Steam. Destiny 2’s last highest concurrent player peak was in 2019 when the game was released on Steam.

That record was set 2 days after the game’s Steam release when the player count was 292k. At that time, it was attributed to the fact that the game was released as a f2p title.

This time the high concurrent player count is probably due to the release of Destiny 2: Lightfall, Destiny 2’s last expansion. So the fans of the series want to experience the game one last time before it stops receiving updates. As some dubbed it, Lightfall is the game’s farewell to fans.

Bungie, Destiny 2’s developer, also intends to end things on a high note. It includes new subclasses to enhance the gameplay experience, and new campaigns and raids to add to it.

And so far it appears the studio has succeeded in its goal as more than 316k have flocked to play it just on steam. Some have even projected that the number might go even higher by the weekend. As Tuesday is a weekday and more people are free on weekends.
