Additionally, Team Ninja is ceaselessly putting efforts into expanding Wo Long’s engagement with nonstop patches to fix any known issues. The studio has now revealed three forthcoming DLCs for the game, indicating that they have a long road ahead of them, and Wo Long may not be leaving our libraries any time soon.
Furthermore, the game amassed an incredible number of 3.8 million players likely owes to its availability on Xbox Game Pass, a platform that lets the players try their hand at a game without buying it. Koei Tecmo acknowledges the opportunities Xbox Game Pass comes with. The publisher in a recent survey asked fans about more games they want on Game Pass.
However, Wo Long Fallen Dynasty did struggle at the time of its release. Despite a somewhat nice reception, the game was stained by its performance issues and review bombing, but still managed to score 79 on Metacritic for its PC port, and 81 and 79 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X ports respectively.
It’s also the first Japanese game to top the 2023 Japan weekly Steam charts. Wo Long is actually an enjoyable RPG with an excellent combat system and an engaging storyline. The game’s mechanics were seen as an issue, mostly optimization problems and crashes which the developer studio has been addressing in a row of patches.
The last patch 1.06 served some quality-of-life improvements, and within mere two weeks, another patch has been released just today to add more functions, balance adjustments, and bug fixes. With the effort, Wo Long might actually become a franchise like Team Ninja’s earlier successful franchise Nioh, but that’s something yet to come.
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is out now for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store.
