One of the most anticipated games announced at the 2021 Game Awards, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, is the long-awaited sequel to the original Warhammer. The game is an exciting combination of the shooter and hack-n-slash genres. The game’s cinematic trailer was shown in December 2021 without a release date. But, we may have news on that front through a report from Games Workshop.
A half-year report from Games Workshop suggests that Warhammer: Space Marine 2 will be released beyond 2022. The report doesn’t list Space Marine 2 as one of the Warhammer games releasing in 2022. Major video games listed as this year’s releases are Total War: Warhammer 3, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, and Lost Crusade. But, there is no mention of Space Marine 2 among these games. That indicates a later release date for the game. This release date isn’t explicit. But, the announcement of other Warhammer game’s for 2022 points to a later release for Space Marine 2.
Games Workshop has stayed quiet on the release date for their major IP. Developers Saber Interactive showed the cinematic trailer during the 2021 Game Awards and got a positive response from fans. The trailer has created hype for the game on social media. It confirmed the return of Captain Titus as a Primaris Space Marine and a change in actors. Clive Standen will voice Titus in the sequel, which is a significant change for the franchise. So, the fans are even more excited seeing an actor of this calibre is playing the titular role.
The game will take place in Games Workshop‘s Warhammer 40,000 universe. The Ultramarine’s chapter of Space Marines will also feature. The trailer also marked the return of the Tyranids as enemies. The sequel will release more than ten years after the original game, so it’s safe to say that the fans are excited.
Fans also feel that a Space Marines 2 not releasing in 2022 is a good decision. Two major Warhammer games, Darktide and Total War: Warhammer 3, come out in 2022. So, another Warhammer game may be too much for the fans. Hence, a later release will give the game its best chance to succeed.
This move by Games Workshop makes perfect sense, and it will increase the excitement for Space Marines 2. The sequel more than ten years in the making is worth waiting for, and hopefully, Games Workshop delivers a game worth all the hype. Let us know your thoughts regarding the Space Marines’ 2 release date.
