Story Highlights
- The Last of Us Part 1 is the remake of the extremely well-received The Last of Us from 2013.
- The action-adventure survival shooter has been discounted by $30 at Walmart for the PS5.
- This is a whopping $30 off on what is otherwise one of the best PlayStation exclusives.
Walmart has been feeling generous lately; The Last of Us Part 1, which is a top-shelf PlayStation exclusive, has been discounted to $39.97 on the popular retail platform. This is a nice $30 off of the game’s standard pricing, $69.99. I’m pretty sure this deal isn’t sticking around for long, so if you haven’t tried the game out, now just might be the right time to pull the trigger. You can’t go wrong with it, personally speaking.
In case you’re not aware, The Last of Us Part 1 is a remake of the fan-favorite The Last of Us from 2013—that’s when the game was released for the first time for the PlayStation 3 exclusively. A year later, it got ported to the PS4 as well in the name of a remaster, but it was only in 2020 that the title was reworked right from the ground up, and practically “remade” for Sony’s then-next-gen PS5 console.
As for the discounted deal, you’ll also find a similar promoted price on Amazon right now, where the game is retailing for a cent shy of $40. If you click on the Steam variant of the listing there, the price cut will disappear, so Amazon is entertaining only PlayStation 5 players with the discount right now. However, the Epic Games Store has PC players covered as well, slapping a $20 discount on the third-person shooter.
On a side note, though, The Last of Us franchise has been making headlines this past week with the cancellation of the spin-off multiplayer project that Naughty Dog called Factions. The developer said in a blog post that this game didn’t align with the core ambitions of the studio, so ultimately, a choice had to be made between Factions, a live service game, and other future titles closer to Naughty Dog’s heart.
So, we had two paths in front of us: become a solely live service games studio or continue to focus on single-player narrative games that have defined Naughty Dog’s heritage.”

The Last of Us Part 1 came out on September 2, 2022, for the PlayStation 5 exclusively, but got later ported to PC in March 2023. eXputer reviewed the game and rated it 4/5, with writer Usama Mehmood highlighting its gripping storytelling and jaw-dropping new visuals while criticizing the title’s outdated level design and the lack of a multiplayer mode.
