Hasbro Inc. has made about $90 million from the critically acclaimed third entry of the Baldur’s Gate series. During the fourth quarter earnings call, Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks revealed the revenue generated via a licensing deal. He went on the explain, “As you turn the corner into 2024, in the front half of the year, you’re still going to have the tail from Baldur’s Gate 3.“
The third entry in the legacy RPG franchise is developed by Larian Studios, renowned for its work on the Divinity: Original Sin series. Baldur’s Gate 3 is based on the Dungeons and Dragons IP, a famous tabletop role-playing game by a subsidiary of Hasbro.
While Larian launched Baldur’s Gate 3 in early access during 2020, the official release in 2023 saw it take the video game industry by storm. So much so, that the devs were concerned that the project had reached its peak during the initial launch.

Some of the accolades won by the third entry of Baldur’s Gate include the 2023 Game of the Year at TGA. In addition to that, it won Best Performance, Best Role Playing Game, and Best Community Support at the same event. Furthermore, it’s been crowned as the best-performing game on PC game marketplace Steam in terms of units sold. That’s not where it stops, however, as the game also reached 500,000 reviews on the platform with an “overwhelmingly positive” rating.
Larian’s latest work is one of those projects that are difficult to accurately categorize. Due to its nature, people raised questions as to whether it was correct to omit the title from indie categories in light of its production value.
Baldur’s Gate 3 launched on August 3, 2023, for PC, followed by a PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S release later in the year. eXputer rated the game 5/5 in its review, citing its excellent narrative & terrific worldbuilding.
