Story Highlights
- Helldivers 2 is the global sensation everyone and their grandma seems to know about these days.
- The first game in the franchise, however, just got treated to a discount on PlayStation recently.
- Although a ways apart from the sequel, Helldivers is a top-down shooter with intriguing gameplay.
While Helldivers 2 has been making rounds across the globe for being so incredibly fun that it’s hard to put the controller down, downshift here, and try to figure out where it all began in the name of the first Helldivers, which is now 60% off on the PlayStation Store in the wake of the storefront’s sprawling May Sale. The shooter’s going to make you realize how far Arrowhead Game Studios has come, if nothing else.
Oh, and it’s not just the base edition that you can pick up for your PlayStation console (note that the first Helldivers isn’t PS5-optimized). The fact that the Super Earth Ultimate Edition is on sale means you get all three DLC expansions, namely Masters Of The Galaxy, Turning Up The Heat, and Democracy Strikes Back Expansions, 11 additional DLC packs spanning aesthetics and whatnot, and even a bonus weapons bundle.
That’s quite a bit for $16.
Meanwhile, The Sequel’s Success Continues To Run Rampant
From the inclusion of satirical elements to being extremely replayable, Helldivers 2 has been making a killing out there over the course of its release. It was February’s highest-grossing game, currently the best-selling title in the entirety of the USA, and overall a prominent sales success for the publisher Sony. And after all, how could it not be this way?
Helldivers 2 has no pay-to-win concepts, nor does it comprise egregious battle passes that force you to stretch your wallet month in and month out. It’s an unbelievably righteous live service shooter in the day and age of today, and something that WB Games’ Suicide Squad can learn a lot from.

Anyhow, the first Helldivers is classified as a twin-stick shooter and a good one at that. Obviously, it’s nowhere near the level of its sequel, but for something that’s paved the way to such brilliance, you can’t go wrong with it, especially when $16 is on the line.
