Story Highlights
- The Resident Evil 4 remake is a true-hearted reimagining of the 2005 classic for old platforms.
- The game, having sold 7 million copies earlier, continues to grow sales-wise a year after release.
- The original from 2005, however, has rolled over the 12-million mark in terms of sales.
Although still lagging quite behind the original Resident Evil 4 from 2005, which came out on the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo GameCube initially (God that makes me feel old), the fairly faithful remake of the legendary third-person shooter sure seems to be catching up. Capcom detailed the sales figures of the Resident Evil 4 remake in a newly published report, saying nothing but good things about its latest venture.
Further, in addition to reaching a cumulative total of 7.02 million units sold for Resident Evil 4, which launched in March 2023, and contributing to catalog sales growth, the Company conducted proactive promotional campaigns to gain wider recognition for its IPs and acquire new fans, focusing primarily on series title sales, such as Resident Evil 2. As a result, catalog title sales reached 36.29 million units, exceeding 29.3 million units in the same period of the previous fiscal year and boosting earnings,” says the report.
To get up to speed with recent developments as well, Resident Evil 4 (2023) became the fastest-selling game in the franchise earlier, beating the rest of the competition by far and large, so it’s safe to say that Capcom’s plans didn’t fail with this one. However, if you’re holding out hope for another expansion following the release of Separate Ways, don’t.
More Resident Evil Games Are Coming
The devs have already implied that they’re finished with the remake and that it’ll get no further DLCs. It is not something I’d disagree with to be honest, even though many would love more content pertaining to this fantastic title, but it’s understandable how resources would be directed toward new iterations in the franchise to keep the series going.
As such, a fleeting rumor going around says that the next Resident Evil could feature an open-world setting. Not sure how that’s going to turn out.
