Story Highlights
- FromSoftware is an exceptionally popular Japanese developer, known for its Dark Souls and Elden Ring IPs.
- The developer’s financial report for the fiscal year ending March 2024 has now come out into the open.
- As per the findings, FromSoftware has suffered a 29% loss in profit as compared to the last fiscal year.
As per information pertaining to FromSoftware’s latest financial report for the fiscal year ending March 2024 provided by industry insider Dr. Serkan Toto, it seems that FromSoftware has suffered a loss in total generated revenue as compared to the previous year. The Japanese developer seems to have endured a 29% revenue drop as of late, earning 15.5 billion Japanese yen (103.2 million USD).
While the net profit earned is 3.984 billion yen, the figure is down by 54.4% if you contrast it with the profits of the last fiscal year. It’s been said that this significant decline is due to the release of Elden Ring in 2022, which boosted sales for FromSoftware in that period, which, as of January 2024, has rolled over more than 25 million units to date.
Additionally, Elden Ring’s launch was decorated with success. It took the open-world action RPG no more than two weeks to reach the 2-million-copies-sold milestone, signaling nothing but good fortune for the creators behind the project. That said, since FromSoft did not release a new game during the last fiscal period, its sales saw the aforementioned substantial decline.
Suffering from success realized.
The Projection For This Year Remains Positive Thanks To Elden Ring’s DLC
The iconic Dark Souls and the relatively recent Elden Ring maker has long been praised as one of the greatest video game developers of all time, if not the greatest altogether—no questions asked. FromSoft reignited interest in its magnum opus with the onset of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, making us players go on an epic wild ride yet again.

Point being, Shadow of the Erdtree is going to skyrocket FromSoft’s net revenue again by the time the current fiscal year comes to a close, considering its high quality and depth of content that’s made it a fan-favorite among the community. What’s more, is that the DLC’s already sold over 5 million units in a span of one week. Absolutely incredible but deserving all the same.
eXputer rated Elden Ring’s DLC 5/5 in its review, with author Haris Umer remarking,
Shadow of the Erdtree improves upon the already perfect Elden Ring with the addition of new weapons, regions, and bosses.”
