Story Highlights
- Mortal Kombat 1 is one of the most well-received fighting games in the business right now.
- According to a new rumor, Mortal Kombat 1 won’t be getting more DLCs. Current plans also got scrapped.
- The rumor comes from a known insider with a mostly clean track record. Do take it with a grain of salt.
Mortal Kombat 1’s popularity has only risen ever since it made landfall last year, but that hasn’t always been in a positive way. As of late, an interesting development has surfaced that speaks for the future of Mortal Kombat 1, and let me tell you this: Things don’t look good on this front.
Trusted insider u/_FateUnknown_ has reason to believe that the next Kombat Pack for Mortal Kombat 1 has been scrapped. The latter also includes another story expansion succeeding Khaos Reigns, but there’s doubt in the air now whether more Mortal Kombat 1 content is actually coming.
Kombat pack 3 and a second story expansion were planned. All cancelled recently, no more characters after Kombat Pack 2. A kameo or two might make it since there has been work done on them but I don’t know yet.”
Mortal Kombat 1 has so far received two different Kombat Packs, each time welcoming a swath of guest characters, including the likes of Homelander, Omni-Man, Ermac, Peacemaker, Ghostface, and multiple others. The last Kombat Pack arrived with Khaos Reigns, which is a story expansion for Mortal Kombat 1’s mainline campaign.
Mortal Kombat 1’s Khaos Reign DLC Costs $50
The insider in question says that the reason NetherRealm will not be proceeding on more Mortal Kombat 1 content is that Khaos Reigns — its latest expansion — failed to sell up to par. Now, here’s one reason I can give why—the DLC costs $50. Compare that with the likes of Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, and you’ll find people’s motivation lacking to make that jump.
