Story Highlights
- Rebel Wolves initially confirmed only Quality Mode (30 FPS) and Balanced Mode (40 FPS) for consoles.
- After a wave of criticism, Rebel Wolves announced that a Performance Mode targeting 60 FPS will be added via a Day 1 Patch.
- The Blood of the Dawnwalker will release on September 3, 2026.
Rebel Wolves has reversed course on one of the most talked-about complaints heading into The Blood of Dawnwalker’s launch.
Performance Mode Is Coming After All

Just days after confirming The Blood of Dawnwalker would ship without a 60 FPS console option, Rebel Wolves has reversed that decision entirely.
The Blood of #Dawnwalker will receive a Performance Mode targeting 60 FPS on PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X on Day 1 through the launch patch,” the studio announced on X.
“On Friday, we answered your questions about console performance with what we knew we could confidently deliver at launch. Performance Mode was already in the works, but it was still being tested. We simply weren’t ready to promise it yet,” said Rebel Wolves on X.
Rebel Wolves credited player reaction for accelerating the decision. “We heard your feedback. It was clear how much this mattered to many of you, so we focused on finishing the next round of tests. Those results gave us the confidence we needed to confirm Performance Mode for Day 1.”
The Full Lineup Of Console Modes
With Performance Mode added, Rebel Wolves laid out the complete picture across every platform.
- PS5 Pro gets three modes: Performance targeting 60fps, Balanced targeting 40fps, and Quality targeting 30fps, with PS5 Pro also receiving overall visual enhancements on top.
- Base PS5 and Xbox Series X get the same three-mode split: Performance at 60fps, Balanced at 40fps, and Quality at 30fps.
- Xbox Series S is the outlier, targeting 30fps only, with no Performance or Balanced option specified.
This is a meaningfully different lineup from what Rebel Wolves confirmed just days earlier, when console footage showed only Quality and Balanced modes across the board, with PS5 Pro notably capped at the same 40fps ceiling as base consoles despite its extra horsepower. That absence had drawn particularly sharp criticism given Sony’s mid-generation refresh exists specifically to unlock better performance in situations like this.
A Fast Turnaround Before Launch

Reversing a console performance decision this close to release, with The Blood of Dawnwalker still launching September 3, is a fairly rare move, and one that suggests the negative reaction genuinely changed Rebel Wolves’ calculus on what to ship at Day 1 rather than save for a later patch.
Whether Performance Mode holds up well technically once players get hands-on time remains to be seen, but for now, the studio has turned one of its most criticized pre-launch decisions into a genuine win with less than two weeks to spare.
