HoYoverse Announces Nodus Fall, Its Own Spin On Monster Hunter

HoYoverse's own reveal leans on original mythology and squad-based combat, even if the gameplay itself looks a lot like Monster Hunter.

Story Highlights

  • HoYoverse officially revealed Nodusfall during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live on August 25, 2026.
  • Players take on the role of Weavers, forming squads to battle massive creatures called Dreadnodus.
  • The combat systems are heavily inspired from Capcom’s Monster Hunter series.

HoYoverse’s next big project looks nothing like the rest of its catalog, and the studio finally confirmed it directly.

HoYoverse’s Own Pitch For Nodusfall

HoYoverse announced Nodusfall at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live on August 25, 2026, with the official reveal also confirmed on Nodusfall’s website, describing a world where “both divine authority and order have fallen.” Players take on the role of Weavers, “forging bonds with powerful companions to battle earth-shattering foes, seizing whatever divinity remains, and uncovering secrets buried deep within the world.” The page’s tagline sums up the premise directly: “Wield Divinity, Sever the Dreadnodus.”

The story follows a catastrophic event: a mysterious Dreadnodus descends, corrupts legendary beings, and plunges the world into ruin. Players step in as the Weaver, tasked with severing the Dreadnodus at its root and uncovering what’s buried beneath it.

Monster Hunter Meets Elden Ring With Sprinkle Of Gacha Mechanics

Combat is built around squad coordination rather than solo play. Players “form a squad with their companions to face off against massive beasts and creatures that once existed only in myth,” with HoYoverse describing every fight as “a dual test of synergy and tactical adaptability.” The studio frames the rhythm of combat directly: “Work in unison with your allies to maintain relentless pressure! Then seize the moment when the enemy reveals an opening to deliver a fatal blow!” Defeating enemies rewards resources that unlock new skills and weapons.

The reveal trailer itself makes the Monster Hunter comparison hard to miss, even though HoYoverse’s own text never says it outright. It shows a full party fighting a single giant monster together, with players climbing onto its body mid-fight and using ropes to topple it, a structure and set of mechanics that reads as a direct parallel to how Monster Hunter’s own large-monster fights work. Even though HoYoverse’s materials never mention Monster Hunter, Elden Ring, or any other game by name, the obvious comparisons are hard to ignore.

HoYoverse gave no release date, no confirmed platforms, and no details on monetization, closing instead with a promise to share “the latest news, development updates, and event information” through its official website and social channels going forward. For now, Nodusfall exists as a single reveal trailer and a pitch built around original mythology and cooperative combat, with everything else left for future updates.
