Rumor: PlayStation Is Planning To Revive Killzone Series

Killzone hasn’t had a new entry since Killzone: Shadow Fall in 2013, but according to a new MP1st report citing people familiar with the matter, that’s starting to change. The outlet says a new Killzone project is now in the very early stages of production at Guerrilla Games, though an official announcement isn’t expected anytime soon. 

Guerrilla Isn’t Doing This Alone

Per MP1st’s sources, Guerrilla is working with an outside studio on the project rather than handling it entirely in-house. The report points toward People Can Fly as the likely partner, based on a March 2025 agreement between PlayStation and the studio to co-develop a project codenamed Delta, built around an existing PlayStation IP.

MP1st says it couldn’t get definitive confirmation that Delta and this new Killzone project are the same thing, but calls it the most consistent lead among what its sources have described.

As for what the game actually is, whispers of a full reboot have come up, but the most consistent word MP1st has gathered points to a visual overhaul of an existing title rather than something built from scratch. No specific game has been named, though the original 2004 Killzone is described as the most logical pick if a remaster or remake is really what’s happening.

Where This Fits Into Guerrilla’s Roadmap

MP1st’s report ties this directly to Guerrilla’s other big project, Horizon: Hunter’s Gathering, the studio’s multiplayer Horizon spin-off. Killzone was reportedly meant to be Guerrilla’s next major focus once Hunter’s Gathering wrapped, with part of the team already earmarked for it.

That changed after reports that Hunter’s Gathering was rebooted following negative feedback, which pushed fixing that game back to the top of Guerrilla’s priority list. MP1st’s understanding is that Horizon 3 is now slated to follow this new Killzone project, though the report is careful to note that’s subject to change given how early everything still is.

A Franchise That’s Been Dormant Since 2013

Killzone was once positioned as Sony’s answer to Halo, memorably nicknamed the “Halo Killer” off the back of its early 2004 reveal trailer, before Guerrilla shifted its focus almost entirely to Horizon. Shadow Fall, the last mainline entry, was generally well received on PS4 and kept a multiplayer community alive for years, with its servers only shutting down in August 2022.

It wouldn’t be the first old PlayStation shooter to get new attention either; Nixxes has previously named Killzone among the older PlayStation franchises it’s expanded into remaster work on, alongside titles like Resistance and Infamous.
