Top 6 Mid-Sized Games You Can Finish In Around 12 Hours

Striking the perfect balance between lengthy and concise here.

Story Highlights

  • Video games in modern times don’t always feature the desired length expected by players.
  • Some titles often take too long to finish while others are too short, leaving a lot to be demanded.
  • Mid-sized games that offer the perfect amount of content, however, are always in fashion.

Tired of having to go through mission after mission in the likes of Red Dead Redemption 2? Or have you simply had it with ephemeral experiences and want to fire up something with just the right amount of play length? I’ve found myself in a similar boat on multiple occasions, but I’m glad I was able to sift through the forthcoming games in my time spent playing them, ending up having my expectations fulfilled.

This does remain a problem with many AAA games; there’s so much content in there, one can easily lose track of things and start looking at other options. With some titles though, that can’t be the case, and I’m here to shed light on some of the best mid-size games I’ve played over the course of the previous years that will keep you content as you try them out.

Here Are My Top Recommendations For Games With Respectable Play Lengths

Just so we’re all on the same page here: When you talk about mid-size, you refer to games that last somewhere around 12-15 hours if you focus on the mainline quests. And those wanting to make 100% completion should find it achievable around the 20-25-hour mark.

With that said, make sure to comment down below and let everyone know about some of the other games that you think deserve to be on this list.

1. Ratchet And Clank: Rift Apart

Starting the list off, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is one of the most well-made games you’ll play on your PlayStation 5 all year. Everything from the combat and level design down to the voice acting and the visuals just feels amazing on this front, not to mention the magic of the DualSense that keeps players hooked right until the end, just waiting for the next special effects sequence, which frequently happens along the course of the game.

According to HowLongtoBeat, which is a reputed domain known for tracking the play length of games, Rift Apart takes approximately 11 hours to finish, which is simply a fantastic figure for a mid-size title. As of December last year, the title has made about $64 million in profit, not to mention selling over 4 million units as well.

eXputer reviewed the action-adventure platformer and rated it 4.5/5.0, with author Moiz Banoori remarking, “Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart offers a captivating journey that explores new dimensions while retaining the heart of the series.”

2. Control

Moving down the list, we’ve got Control at our disposal, one of Remedy Entertainment’s best works to date, and one masterpiece of an action-adventure, although one with survival elements. The game has rolled over 4 million copies to date, with a sequel also currently in the works. Remedy has created this whole system of multiple games that link to each other to a certain extent, mainly including the Alan Wake franchise.

If you’re an action game enthusiast, best get into the Remedy Connected Universe (RCU) as soon as possible. That’s because as per eXputer’s discussion with Sam Lake, Control’s anticipated sequel, and the DLCs revolving around Alan Wake 2, the latest in the series, are coming too. Best to check the interview out for more insightful information.

A Plague Tale series also happens to have another game brewing behind the curtains, considering the sequel — Requiem — sold more than 3 million units over the course of its release. Talk about a beautifully made, extremely well-written action-adventure, with amazing gameplay, and a fitting atmosphere. It’s easily regarded as one of the most underrated games of 2022, and for due reason.

eXputer in its A Plague Tale: Requiem review held the title in high regard, with author Asad Ahmed calling it “an absolute delight to play from start to finish.”

4. Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown

Not a lot of folks had strong hopes for Ubisoft’s next iteration in the iconic Prince of Persia franchise, but despite the latest title being a side-scrolling platformer, the developer didn’t fail to impress. The Lost Crown is a Metroidvania at heart, and a solid action-adventure with a lot of stuff going on for it. If you set out to play it from start to finish, it will take you about 16 hours to beat it entirely, which is, well, just the time range we’re targeting here.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown received a 3.5/5.0 overall rating in eXputer’s review, with author Usama Mehmood commending its superb combat, engaging exploration, and terrific level design.

6. Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy

Eidos Montreal has worked up a wonder with Guardians of the Galaxy, featuring an incredibly well-made storyline, great world design that shows off amazing environments, and fantastic dialogue that will have you giggling every 20 minutes or so when you’re going through the campaign. The third-person shooter will take about 16 hours to beat, which is just the right amount of content before things start getting a tad too repetitive.
