The final mental location in Psychonauts 2 will take you to Fatherland Follies, giving you an ultimate chance to nab some more Emotional Baggage collectibles. The game takes you here after showing you the truth about Maligula’s past and her newfound identity as Nona Aquato in Lucrecia’s Lament.
Fatherland Follies sees you entering the mind of the long-sought mole in the Psychonauts, who is none other than Nick from the Mailroom, soon revealed to be Gristol Malik, the heir to the throne of Grulovia (which means we can put our theories to rest). The level pays off many of the arcs set up by the game as it takes us through the fall of Grulovia and Malik’s subsequent efforts to regain his throne.
More importantly, though, it lets us go on one last hunt for every Emotional Baggage collectible that Fatherland Follies has to offer! For which we have added a summary down below:
|Emotional Baggage||Bag Location||Tag location||Securing Playthrough|
|The Duffle Bag||Fall Of Grulovia Section||Fall Of Grulovia Section||1st|
|The Hat Box||Fall Of Grulovia Section||Fall Of Grulovia Section||1st|
|The Suitcase||Gift Shop||Life In Exile section||1st|
|The Purse||Life In Exile section||Life In Exile section||1st|
|The Steamer Trunk||Infiltrating the Psychonauts Section.||Infiltrating the Psychonauts Section.||Revisit required|
The Fatherland Follies mental realm in Psychonauts 2 is fairly large and has Emotional Baggage collectibles spread throughout its length. Most of these can be attained within the areas filled with animated sets and dioramas depicting various parts of Gristol’s version of Grulovian history.
However, much like in Strike City, Hollis’ Hot Streak, and Loboto’s Labyrinth, not all of the Emotional Baggage can be secured on your first playthrough. Therefore, you need not be worried about searching every nook and cranny the first time you go through the level.
Moreover, some of these collectibles can be quite tricky to spot. So, just stick with this Psychonauts 2 guide, and we will take you through every location for finding the Emotional Baggage collectibles in Fatherland Follies!
The Duffle Bag
This is the first baggage you can secure in the level. You should look for it after you get on the carriage ride and enter the Fall of Grulovia section. Near the end of this section, the ride will stop due to an electrical fault. Once this happens, get off of the ride and look behind. Here, you should see a metal door with a red light above it. Interact with the door to open it, and go inside.
The space you enter will contain a gramophone in the center which you can destroy to stop that overly-cheerful music. Just behind the gramophone, though, you will see a large breakable wall made of gold shards. Breaking it using your PSI Blast ability will reveal a chain of blue dark thought bubbles. If you have the Dark Thoughts Mental Connection upgrade unlocked, you can grapple onto them and follow them to another small platform. The Duffle Bag tag will be here.
The Duffle Bag itself is in the same Fall of Grulovia area, albeit very well hidden. Once you’re back in the area where the ride carriage is, look behind the metal door you previously entered. Here, you should spot a chain of white thought bubbles. Grappling onto them will take you to the upper levels of the area where you can view some more Grulovian history depicted in dioramas.
Go forward until you come across the one that shows Ford Cruller battling Maligula. From here, take a left and proceed ahead a little more. Once you reach the blue wave props, look to your left again to see a stage showing the Royal Family fleeing from Grulovia. Jump onto this stage and go to the left a little more. From here, you should finally be able to spot the Duffle Bag up ahead in between some pillars.

The Hat Box
The next Emotional Baggage collectible in Fatherland Follies lies in Fall of Grulovia location where you previously secured the Duffle Bag. After reaching the upper levels of the area by following the thought bubble chain, look to the first diorama that comes up on your left. This will be the one showing the Royal Family being adored by the people of Grulovia. Behind the set, you should be able to spot some white clouds. Jump behind these clouds and you will find a bunch of trampoline nets. Use these nets to jump up until you reach a wooden platform directly above the stage. The Hat Box tag will be here for the taking.
The Hat Box is found again in the Fall of Grulovia area, and can be secured right after snagging the tag. Return to the main path and proceed to the next diorama set which shows Ford Cruller battling Maligula. Just to the right of the Maligula statue will be a small door where some train tracks lead. Go through the door. You will subsequently come into another small area with some spinning fans that you can jump across after slowing them down using Time Bubble. Afterward, wall jump between the two vertical planks and reach the top. As soon as you get to the top, you will stumble upon the Hat Box, awaiting its tag.
Moving ahead with this Psychonauts 2 guide, the next Emotional Baggage location in Fatherland Follies is that of the Suitcase. You can get the tag in the Life in Exile section. This is the second diorama area you visit after fixing the first electrical fault and getting back into the carriage. At the end of this section, the carriage will stop once again. Get off of it, and look behind. To the left, you will spot a graveyard area. Move ahead, and the Suitcase tag will be bobbing in the middle of some gravestones.
The Suitcase itself lies in the last section of the level, which is the Gift Shop. However, you will not be able to secure this bag on your first playthrough. This is because a cutscene ensues as soon as you enter the Gift Shop. Therefore, once you have beaten Psychonauts 2, return to Fatherland Follies using the Collective Unconscious.
Upon returning, proceed to the Gift Shop, and look to the left of the pile of Truman Zanotto dolls. The Suitcase will be here, on the bottom shelf of the left-most cabinet. Secure it, and that’s another Emotional Baggage collectible taken care of.
The Purse tag is also found in the Life in Exile section. To snag this, you need to go to the interactive diorama set where you can change aspects of it by talking to Lili. To get to the tag, you need the diorama set at the default setting. However, if you have changed the scenery, simply ask Lili to change it back to the ‘Arctic Exile’ setting. Moreover, move around any props if needed to make sure that the igloo entrance on the bottom-right is unobstructed. Once that is taken care of, simply jump inside the igloo entrance, and look behind the ice blocks. Here, you can easily spot the Purse tag.
After securing the Purse tag in Fatherland Follies, you can find the Purse Emotional Baggage itself very close by. In the same Life in Exile section, go right from the interactive diorama. You will immediately come across a set which shows the last Gzar on his deathbed surrounded by family. Look to the left of the bed, and you will see the Purse seated here.

The Steamer Trunk
This brings us to the last Emotional Baggage collectible in Fatherland Follies for Psychonauts 2. You can find this once you have entered the Infiltrating the Psychonauts section. This area depicts Malik’s covert operations as a mole in the Psychonauts. Your carriage ride will eventually enter a tree trunk and subsequently descend. Here, you will see Malik’s mental recreation of the Motherlobe, as well as see him swapping out Truman’s brain and controlling a puppet version of Raz. Afterward, you will be thrust into an arena where you will have to fight multiple foes in the midst of a crowd of angry Grulovians.
This all finally leads you to a platforming section after you enter the metal door with the red light. Platform across this area till the very end, going past the platform showing Loboto removing Truman’s brain. The last platform in the area will show a door that leads back to the diorama area. Instead of going through the door, however, look to the other end of the platform. The Steamer Trunk tag will be here for the taking.
The Steamer Trunk is not too far away. In the same platforming section where you secured the tag, backtrack to go back past Loboto, and grapple across two spinning fans. This will lead you to a platform where, upon taking a left, you will find another chain of thought bubbles leading downwards.
Grapple across them, and they will finally lead you to a separate platform where the Steamer Trunk can be seen. Drop down to recombine it with its tag.
