The sequel to the critically acclaimed survival thriller by Alan Wake has been long coming, given how the first title traces its initial release thirteen years back today. In an attempt to keep first impressions smooth and enjoyable, the devs have released the day one patch for Alan Wake 2, with its file size being around 1.2 GB reportedly. The latter may differ on other platforms, though, so do keep that in mind.
Since the update is minor, no official patch notes have been laid out for the update titled v.1.000.004 on the official Remedy website. That said, it’s most likely to include basic bug fixes, performance enhancements, and other stability improvements for Alan Wake 2 ahead of its launch, so players can dive head-first into a relatively more polished game.
One thing that fans have been expecting from the patch is to offer more stable frame rates. This concern comes after Digital Foundry’s tech review of Alan Wake 2 which pointed out specific areas, particularly the more dramatic ones, where some stuttering was observed. Just like this example, others have reported more instances that include bugs and small-scale glitches. Nothing too major has been spotted so far.
On a side note, it bears noticing that Alan Wake 2 won’t have the NG+ mode on launch, but it will come post-launch, just like how it is with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. What’s of more interest here though is that the the game’s New Game+ will sport an “alternative narrative” for both Alan and Saga to sink their teeth into. Wonder how that’ll turn out following the first playthrough of the survival horror.
Alan Wake 2 was launched on October 27, 2023, for multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Remedy first announced it during 2021’s The Game Awards event, pumping long-time fans full of anticipation. In case you’re still waiting on purchasing the title, here’s a comparison guide for all Alan Wake 2 editions, so you know what variant of the game suits you the best.
