Ubisoft Reveals Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s Cut Content, Including A Monkey Companion

It's also been said that there is a way to bring your camel on a rooftop and parkour with it.

Story Highlights

  • Assassin’s Creed Mirage is Ubisoft’s latest installment in the iconic Assassin’s Creed franchise.
  • The game previously featured a money companion for the protagonist, the devs have revealed.
  • The idea, however, was cut very early on because of rising complications in the development process.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage has been received well for all that it brings to the table for fans of the franchise, offering a more back-to-basics approach as opposed to some of the recent titles in the series. Detailing fans how the game was actually first nothing more than a DLC in the back of the developer’s mind, Ubisoft has talked about some additional interesting stuff pertaining to Mirage in a new blog post.

When asked about specific features that had to be cut during development, Stephane Boudon, the Creative Director of Mirage, explained in-depth what those elements were, saying,

Cutting features is never something we like to do. But for some cuts, sometimes there is a pretty good reason. The monkey companion is a good example: it was cut very, very early, as a concept on paper – but we cut it for many reasons. The first one is that it’s hyper-costly. It’s a lot of animation; we’d have to mocap a monkey, and the means to do so were way beyond what we can do in Bordeaux.”

Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Despite All Cut Stuff, Still Has One Gimmick

Not just a monkey companion, which would certainly add some degree of flair to the overall gameplay, but other stuff, such a sandstorm and a dog-controlling enemy were also cut from Mirage at the end of its development. In the case of dogs, Stephane says that the team couldn’t figure out a way for Basim to take care of the dog in a non-lethal way, and as everyone on the team happened to be an “animal lover,” the feature off as an “easy cut.”

Although what strikes me as most interesting is that there’s still a way to take your mounts on rooftops and do “parkour” with it; only Jean-Luc Sala knows how to pull that off though.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage came out on October 5, 2023, for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and old-gen consoles. eXputer rated the action-adventure 3.5/5.0 in its review, praising its stealth focus and creative world-building.
