Elden Ring DLC Is Still “A Little Ways Off,” But “Progressing Well”

We may finally see its release in a few months.

Story Highlights

  • Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdree DLC is confirmed to be progressing well, but it is still a little ways off.
  • A rumor was previously floating around that implied it was ready for release; it was addressed officially.
  • It may launch in the next few months. It came out on February 25, 2022, for PC and current and last-gen consoles.

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is highly awaited among the community, but FromSoftware has been rather silent about the ordeal. There have been no new trailers to showcase the expansion so far, but a developer has finally provided an update to squash the brewing rumors. As reported by Game Watch, FromSoftware producer Yasuhiro Kitao was asked about the whereabouts of the DLC; he said it is still “a little ways off.

The dev made the statement at the PlayStation Partner Awards 2023 in Japan. He has reassured the fans and clarified that it is “progressing well” despite the long development time. The expansion will also include new battles and characters, which is to be expected. Rumors sprouting from November this year suggested that the DLC was planned for early 2024.

That seems a bit unlikely now after the official remark, but no release window has been given besides the vague assurance. The DLC was initially teased at the start of 2023, so only speculations have filled the gap in between. The nature of the expansion is also still unclear in spite of such a long wait, leaving fans worried despite the statement of the studio. It is unclear how the new lore will tie up with the game and what items will be added.
