Best Elden Ring Rune Farming Spots [1500+ Hours Experience]

After playing Elden Ring guide for 1500+ hours, here are my best methods of farming runes in the game for leveling up faster.

Runes are the bread and butter of your playthrough in Elden Ring. You will earn them doing almost anything in the game. Killing enemies will grant you a certain number of runes, whereas tougher enemies drop the highest number of runes.

Best Rune Farming Spots Summary
  • Runes in Elden Ring are earned normally like any other Souls Borne title via enemy and boss kills.
  • Stronger foes in the Lands Between, such as bosses and mini-bosses, yield higher runes.
  • Troll near Third Church yields 1,000 runes.
  • Troll Carriage in Limgrave: 2,000 runes, fodder enemies for more.
  • Bestial Sanctum in Greyoll’s Dragonbarrow: 1,000 runes per Vulgar Militiaman.
  • East Capital Ramparts in Leyndell: 370 runes per small mushroom, 600 per big mushroom, and 3,000 for Gargoyles.
  • Prayer Room in Elphael: High risk, high reward, but can reward up to 32,000 runes per minute.
  • Albinauric Farm in Mohgwyn Palace: 2,000 runes per enemy.

6. The Troll Near Third Church Of Marika

The Best Farming Spot in Mistwood Region.

The Third Church of Marika can be easily found in the eastern region of Limgrave near Mistwood. I believe the church presents one of the best farming spots for the early game in Elden Ring. There is a single troll near the church wandering alone in the area.

If you ask me, I’d say the troll can be easily dealt with using early-game gear and incantations. It will drop 1000 runes upon defeating it. You can easily and efficiently grind many runes by continuously killing that troll near the Third Church of Marika.

5. The Troll Carriage In Limgrave

The Best Farming Spot in Limgrave Region.

It is one of the best early-game farming spots for runes in Elden Ring. Located near the Waypoint Ruins Cellar in Limgrave, there is a carriage being moved by two Trolls There are many fodder enemies that are guarding the carriage as well.

I defeated the Troll to get easy 1000 runes. So you can get 2000 runes by just killing the trolls. It should also be noted that the trolls are extremely easy to take care of. Since they are chained to the carriage, there is not much the trolls can do to defend themselves. You just have to keep slashing away at their health bars until they die.

4. Bestial Sanctum In Greyoll’s Dragonbarrow

The Best Mid-Game Rune Farming Spot .

Although the Bestial Sanctum in the Greyoll’s Dragonbarrow should be tackled near the end-game, the enemies near the sanctum are perfect for farming runes during mid-game. Greoyll’s Dragonbarrow can be accessed even before fighting Margit.

I suggest either travel to the Dragonbarrow using Torrent or just follow D’s NPC questline to get yourself teleported directly inside the Bestial Sanctum. Do not engage the Black Blade Kindred boss fight outside the Sanctum, as you’ll be severely under-leveled for it at that point.

I found many Vulgar Militiamen scattered around the area of Bestial Sanctum. These are relatively small enemies with swift movesets that you can also handle during mid-game. They drop approximately 1000 runes per kill.

3. East Capital Ramparts

The Best Farming Spot in Leydell Region.

Altus Plateau is a great mid-game rune farming location in Elden Ring. You can reach it after defeating two Shard-bearers and defeating the Draconic Tree Sentinel. To start, use the East Capital Rampart Site of Grace as your base. Defeat the enemies holding horns along the path to obtain around 370 runes per enemy.

Encounter a larger one further along the path, granting an extra 600 runes. Near the path’s end, face a fire-breathing gargoyle to gain 3,000 runes.

The gargoyle may occasionally drop 16,000 runes, depending on RNG and luck. This route takes approximately 2 minutes to farm over 10,000 runes, making it one of Elden Ring’s best farming spots.

2. Prayer Room In Elphael, Brace Of The Haligtree

The Best Rune Farming Spot in Elphael.

Elphael is one of the end-game areas, and it is also very well hidden in the game. If you’re having trouble reaching the Haligtree, consider reading the Elden Ring Haligtree Medallion Location Walkthrough guide. Once you’ve reached the Haligtree, beat Loretta and go to the Prayer Room in Elphael.

In my opinion, it is a high-risk, high-reward farming spot. However, the difficulty comes at greater rewards, as you will be farming almost 32,000 runes per minute in Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree. Start from the Prayer Room site of grace and make your way to the outside. Kill all the knights you see in your path until you reach the room filled with Clean-Rot Knights.

1. Albinauric Farm In Mohgwyn Palace

The Best End-Game Rune Farming Spot.

The best rune farming method in Elden Ring, located in the Mohgwyn Palace end-game area, yields 32,000 runes in under a minute with the right weapon.

Start farming at the Palace Approach Ledge Road site of grace, where you’ll find around 15 Albinauric enemies, each dropping about 2,000 runes. You can easily farm 30,000 runes in under a minute due to their proximity and low poise. For optimal results, I use the Sacred Relic Sword, obtained from the remembrance of the Elden Beast, as it quickly dispatches the Albinaurics. If you ask me, this is the best spot for rune farming in the end game.

My Take On Farming Runes

During the 1500+ hours I’ve played Elden Ring,  runes have always been a necessity in all forms. There are certain rune-farming spots in the game, but I highly suggest not tying yourself to a single spot where you can farm runes. For instance, I tried to farm runes from the bird method in Mohgwyn Palace on Patch 1.10, but ultimately, I felt the grind was unnecessary since there were other, more interesting methods to farm them.

The world is filled with hundreds of bosses which give you an abundance of runes to live off, it is only recommended that you hunt for runes in specific spots after doing every bit of content in Elden Ring. In my experience, I faced many burnouts and felt afterward that I wasted the runes given to me by all the dungeon bosses. I inevitably fought on my boss fight marathon.

There are many different builds that you can run in Elden Ring. Additionally, you can read the Elden Ring BEST Builds Tier List for more information. Colossal Swords and Katanas return in Elden Ring; however, Seals are now used instead of catalysts.

You can also read the Best Intelligence Weapons and Best Faith Weapons guides in Elden Ring. Besides, you can read the  Intelligence vs Faith guide to decide between the two stats.
