According to the former Senior Social Media & Studio Marketing Lead at PlayStation, God of War 3 Remastered has sold 4 million copies since its launch. Aaron’s LinkedIn profile mentions that the franchise has become the most profitable PlayStation brand for gaming merchandise. Due to the success of the remaster and some of the recent iterations, God of War has grown popular and become one of PlayStation’s billion-dollar franchises.
God of War 3 was initially launched in 2010, with the remaster released in 2015. Around 5 years after its first launch, God of War 3 Remastered became a well-received title; its sales stand witness to that. Aaron Kaufman‘s LinkedIn profile provided these numbers, and although he has worked on several things during his tenure, the “Experience” section in his profile states the following.
Led the official God of War licensing strategy and built an authentic product creation process to empower the creation of products desired by the fans. God of War has since become the most profitable PlayStation brand for gamer merchandise.”
While the recent titles have found massive success, the series was built due to these games, with God of War 3 Remaster playing a vital role in its success. Kaufman goes on to mention the sales achievement:
Designed and executed the Digital Marketing Plan for the 2015 re-launch of God of War 3 Re-mastered. Led to 4-million life-to-date sales on a 2nd run game (previously released 2010).”
It is unclear whether these sales amount to the end of his time at PlayStation. If so, we can expect God of War 3 Remastered to have slightly more sales. The franchise has come a long way, and after seeing God of War Ragnarok’s success, Santa Monica is presumably hiring a Sr Combat Designer for the next game in the series. We are also getting a TV series that seeks to expand the game’s values.
God of War 3 was released on PlayStation 3 in 2010, with the remaster launching in 2015 on PlayStation 4. It is a single-player game that follows the story of the former Spartan warrior, Kratos, and his venture from the depths of Hades’ lair to the top of Mt Olympus, seeking revenge on the Gods who betrayed him.
