Hogwarts Legacy Director Says No DLC Is Currently Planned

It appears that we will not be seeing any major additions in the game.

Story Highlights

  • Hogwarts Legacy will reportedly not be receiving any DLCs in the future, as confirmed by the game director Alan Tew in the recent IGN Fan Fest event. The team has no current plans for any DLCs.
  • The developers were busy working on the base game and its launch, so the team could not pursue any chances for a potential DLC. However, the team has not stopped working on the game.
  • Avalanche Software has already been working on releasing patches to fix the lingering bugs, such as a recent patch that fixed the PS5 Collector’s Edition trophy bug.
  • The team has also not denied the possibility of more minor updates and content additions, which could arrive in the future.

Hogwarts Legacy arrived at critical acclaim only last week, and players have deeply immersed themselves in the first AAA Wizarding World experience. However, the stunning success of the game, and its supremacy on the sales charts, has already raised a question about future DLCs. It appears the team has finally tackled the query.

Speaking to IGN at the Fan Fest event, the Hogwarts Legacy game director Alan Tew has noted that no DLC is seemingly planned for the entry as of yet.

As per the developer, all of the focus was spent on brewing the Wizarding World to near perfection, and the team stayed busy ensuring the quality and experience of the final release was up to par.

We’ve been really heads down bringing [Hogwarts Legacy] to life. So at the moment there are no current plans for DLC,” iterated game director Alan Tew.

With the increasing development time cycles for AAA games in recent years, DLCs and downloadable expansions for the entries are already usually planned and in development before their global releases. However, the team was too occupied with the Hogwarts Legacy base game to even think of a potential DLC for the future.

However, the words of the Hogwarts Legacy developer do not suggest that it will be entirely left out after its release. Avalanche Software has already been pumping out patches and updates to ensure all the reported bugs and hindrances are completely squashed from the game. Patches have already fixed a few issues in the entry.

For instance, a recent small Hogwarts Legacy patch was released that tackled the bothersome PlayStation 5’s Collector’s Edition trophy bug. Hogwarts Legacy will likely see developer support for years to come. For instance, we will receive fixes and minor updates in one way or another.

Despite lingering controversies, the staggering prevalence of Hogwarts Legacy and huge sale numbers have pushed the new single-player giant to be one of the potential Game of the Year winners this year. Moreover, the users have quite enjoyed the magical venture so far, with highly positive reviews easily proving the prospect.

It is also worth noting that we could see the arrival of smaller updates adding extra content. While those updates would not be large-scale like DLCs, we could still receive many enticing game-enhancing items and features. Regardless, that also remains to be seen in the future, as the director’s words were quite vague.

Hogwarts Legacy has shattered many milestones despite a recent release. The title surpassed Elden Ring sales by 56 percent across Europe in its first week. Moreover, the entry was also played by over 800,000 players on the Steam storefront after its global release. A user has also already created a PlayStation 1 demake for the game.

Hence, we can expect Hogwarts Legacy to receive major mod support from the community; for instance, the modders have already begun showing their magic by creating alluring changes and additions; a mod that turns your broom into a rideable Shrek comes to mind.

All of this indicates that the community will also ensure the game receives the much-needed love by keeping the team busy with requests and bug reports.
