Story Highlights
- Insomniac has finally released Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for the PlayStation 5 exclusively. The game is the sequel to 2018’s Marvel Spider-Man that came out for the PS4.
- Sitting down in an interview, the Senior Narrative Director at Insomniac Games has ignited hope for a potential Venom spin-off sometime in the future.
- However, the devs can only look into a Venom-focused game if there’s enough demand or fan reaction from the side of the community.
It’s October 20, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is finally out after a fairly lengthy period of waiting, hype, and anticipation. So far, the game’s looking absolutely great, nabbing Metacritic’s “Must-Play” seal for itself and becoming the highest-rated Spider-Man game to ever exist. Now that the title has been released, at last, interesting information has surfaced regarding a potential Venom spin-off.
Note: Major spoilers for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 ahead. Trek with caution.
Sitting down in an interview with Insider, the Senior Narrative Director at Insomniac Games Jon Paquette was asked whether fans can look forward to a Venom game, given how he has been made playable, at least for a brief period, in Spider-Man 2 in the same style as Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Jon was keen on taking fan reaction into account first.
So, here’s what we’re doing. We’re focused on ‘Spider-Man 2,’ and what we’re gonna do is we’re gonna wait to see how the fans react. We’re gonna listen to the fans and we’re gonna ask ourselves, ‘Okay, what do the fans really want?'” He then says, “We’ll kind of talk about stuff after we’ve all had time to sleep and take vacations.”
Venom remains one of the most iconic Spider-Man villains and sometimes anti-heroes, who happens to help Peter in his way when the two have mutual interests at times. We also got to see the big guy’s good side in Tom Hardy’s Venom movie series, produced by Columbia Pictures in affiliation with Marvel Entertainment. Therefore, it’s not out of the question that the symbiote would get a gripping narrative of its own.
I can’t help but mention here that Insomniac has another, extremely promising game in the works that revolves around a fan-favorite Marvel superhero—Wolverine. Expectations surrounding this title are over the top, considering that it’s Insomniac as the project’s driving force. We’ve yet to receive any proper info on Marvel’s Wolverine. Only a teaser trailer for it has been shown off at the 2021 PlayStation Showcase.
In other news, don’t expect the New Game+ mode along with the ability to replay missions in the forthcoming action-adventure on launch. An Insomniac representative has spoken out and confirmed that the studio is working to get these features out by the end of this year, so this shouldn’t be a problem. I know some of us will take their good time with the title, exploring it to kingdom come after the main story.
What you can expect, though, is the puzzle skip feature without having to wait for a patch. In case you get tired of any puzzle sequence in-game, make sure to head over to the title’s accessibility options and skip the puzzle painlessly from there. Problem solved. On a side note, just make sure that you watch out for some crazy Spider-Man 2 spoilers running around on the internet and avoid spoiling yourself.
