Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 To Have Puzzle Skip Feature On Launch

Perfect for those who don't want to bother with puzzles in any form.

Story Highlights

  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is gearing up to release shortly now, coming across as the successor to the 2018-released Marvel’s Spider-Man.
  • The game’s early review scores are out, and as expected, it’s doing splendidly across the spectrum for all that it brings to the table.
  • A new post on X (formerly) Twitter by a known industry representative seemingly confirms that players will be able to skip puzzles in Spider-Man 2 on launch, without waiting for a patch.

Not a fan of puzzle sequences in otherwise extremely fluid games, such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2? Don’t fret. A recent report has confirmed that the upcoming sequel to the mega-hit Marvel’s Spider-Man from 2018 will feature a puzzle-skipping feature right off the bat, making it possible for years to negate some of the more laid-back parts of the gameplay and fast-forward right to where the action’s at.

The claim comes from Gene Park, an author for The Washington Post, who recently reviewed Insomniac’s next big thing as well. Gene said that the “Skip Puzzle” accessibility feature is “immediately available in Spider-Man 2” and fans “don’t have to wait for a patch.” It’s worth noting that this functionality was available in both previous installments—Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

For those not in the know, outside of all the rip-roaring web-swinging and fast-paced bone-breaking featured in Marvel’s Spider-Man games, there are certain missions in the titles that feature solvable puzzles to proceed to the next sequence. Now, while others enjoy the challenge, some don’t want any part of it, thus the initiative by Insomniac to include an accessibility tool for skipping past puzzles.

Besides, and this has consistently remained a pet peeve for many players around the world—numerous modern-day games, such as God of War Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West don’t actually let players think for themselves and give out hints to solve whatever puzzle room they’re in. Even High on Life — Xbox’s surprise 2023 exclusive — took a jab at Ragnarok, mocking the game for its puzzle spoilers.

Others take a different, more netural approach, though. Commenting under the story, one Redditor said, “Puzzles are one of my favorite parts of games, but it’s great that people have options” while another sarcastically said, “Is there an option to ‘shut up and let me think?’ I mean, more and more games throw hints to us with the character speaking to himself and it gets out of hands sometimes.”

Another part of the news that you may want to know about is that puzzles in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will feature similar great background tracks as the ones apparent in the predecessor, such as this one. When asked whether the “[the] really good puzzle music from the first game [is] still in this one,” Gene replied with the following, affirming that a similar vibe is present in the sequel.

On a side note, Insomniac has seemingly loaded Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 chock-full of other accessibility tools as well. The game will let you slow down the combat action to 30% or even 70% of the full speed, and there are even measures put in place, such as “Challenge Level Modifiers” that will help players fine-tune various aspects of the title’s difficulty to ensure a smooth playable experience.

Heck, one report also confirmed that there’s even an option to toggle fall damage for both Peter and Miles and personally, this is what I’m most excited about. The thrill of the fact that hitting the ground in the wake of a missed input can fatally harm the Spider-Men offers a new sense of rush that hardcore fans of the franchise can genuinely take pleasure in.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will make landfall for the PlayStation 5 exclusively on October 20, 2023.
