It was also supposed to use the Nemesis System.

Story Highlights

  • The gameplay for Monolith Productions’ canceled Batman game has resurfaced online.
  • Details include videos and images saved in the Internet Archive before the title was canned.
  • WB Games allegedly did not want two similar IPs. So, it was changed into Shadow of Mordor.

Monolith Productions was once working on a Batman game now scrapped by Warner Bros. Now, gameplay footage with images and videos has resurfaced online, courtesy of SpideyRanger on Twitter. Codenamed Project Apollo, it was an open-world title set in the Nolanverse universe. Players could move around Gotham City using the batmobile or a grappling hook. You could also glide down from skyscrapers, like in usual Batman fashion.

Additionally, the gameplay shows gadget loadouts and early stealth sequences with combat mechanics.

The details on the Internet Archive reveal that the footage was initially found in 2022, but many have just stumbled across it for the first time. Many particulars about the project were first unveiled in a detailed DidYouKnowGaming video four years ago.

WB Games’ Nemesis System Was Initially Set To Debut In Project Apollo

While we did not get to play the notable Batman title, remnants of it were preserved in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. Project Apollo was seemingly going to be the debut of the infamous Nemesis System before it was moved into The Lord of the Rings game. Unfortunately, more details about the entry have been lost to time. You can check the official Internet Archive page to find the rest of the points and relevant download files.

Regardless, it is best to take the nuances with a grain of salt.
