Suicide Squad Pays Homage To Kevin Conroy, Developer Claims

The game is scheduled to release early in February.

Story Highlights

  • Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a live service third-person shooter coming in February.
  • As per a new preview event, it has been revealed that the game pays homage to Kevin Conroy.
  • Conroy is a legendary voice actor, known for his generation-spanning Batman voiceovers.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is coming up hot next month, releasing across the board for major current-gen platforms. It features the Justice League in action, with Kevin Conroy reprising his role as Batman as well. According to the game’s director Alex Rydby, Suicide Squad is as much a tribute to the iconic Batman voice actor as it was possible for the devs to make the title that way (thanks Eurogamer).

It was very emotional for all of us in the entire studio, it was so sad when he passed. I think it’s hard to overstate how important he’s been to Batman as a character and the depiction of Batman. We were all really sad when it happened and we wanted it to be as much of a tribute as we could make it in the game,” Alex Rydby said during a preview event.

The developers truly took fans by surprise when they revealed Batman for the first time in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, because by this time, Kevin was already no more. Turns out, he will voice the iconic character one final time post-humously, considering how the game was first announced early in 2020, before Kevin’s unfortunate death.

His performance as Batman in this game is stellar, as always. But he’s taken Batman to a new place, I think in this game, where he’s an older character. We know that Mr. Conroy really enjoyed his performance in the game and that was important to us that it felt like he liked what we were doing with the character as well.”

Kevin Conroy – Nothing Short Of A Legendary VA

For those not in the know, Kevin passed away on November 11, 2022, following a “short battle with cancer. His art, performance, and caliber are etched deep into the hearts of every Batman fan who has had the honor to witness his work. He breathed life into Batman: The Animated Series that ran between 1992-1996, not to mention Kevin’s portrayal of the Caped Crusader in the Batman: Arkham franchise by Rocksteady.

Suicide Squad And Fan Reaction

As the news found itself circulating on Reddit, people have met it with a stern reaction, expressing that they don’t really buy this notion of the game paying tribute to the late Kevin Conroy. DEEZLE13 says sarcastically, “This next item shop rotation is for you Kev,” thereby highlighting the live service nature of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
