Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Director Defends Mary Jane’s Stealth Missions

Bryan Intihar, the Creative Director of Spider-Man 2 advocated the return of the infamous Mary Jane’s stealth in the sequel. MJ’s stealth missions are one of the elements that are carried over from the first game and the last time we checked, the Spidey community wasn’t very accepting of the said segments. But, despite the wide negative reception, Insomniac decided to retain MJ with her stun gun.

In a recent interview with IGN, Bryan Intihar spoke up about the reintroduction of Mary Jane in all her stealth glory in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The game director mentioned that the studio was fully aware that the players detested MJ’s sections. However, as per Intihar, the team deliberately opted to take on the challenge to include them despite having a choice to eliminate them whenever.

We had two choices. We could say, ‘All right, we’ll make it easy and just not do it.’ And everybody would go, ‘Great. No MJ missions.’ Or we could say, ‘Hey, we’ve talked about showing the world from all different angles. We’re going to make her moments better. We’re going to take on the challenge.”

Intihar went on to express the resolution the Spider-Man 2’s team had to re-introduce Mary Jane as a more “proactive” and “capable person” compared to the first installment. The team wanted the community to finally start liking playing as her. And, as for Intihar, he doesn’t bother the narrative going around about Mary Jane returning as an “overpowered” character.

We’re going to make people like playing as her.’ We pick and choose our spots. We knew we had to make her more of a proactive, capable person. And if she’s a little OP, I don’t give a sh*t. She’s fine. I don’t care.”

Furthermore, Mary Jane’s powerful comeback with a stun gun has fans divided. Some believe it’s overpowered while many have thoroughly enjoyed her missions. In any case, the memes are pretty fun. Fans have even begun to hilariously dub MJ as the “Jane Wick,” drawing a parallel to the action-packed John Wick series thanks to her impressive stealth sections.
