Spider-Man 2-Themed PlayStation 5 And Controller Can Be Bought Separately

If you already own the next-gen console, you can just buy the console covers to get your PS5 ready for the Insomniac title.

Story Highlights

  • As per Sony, you can buy the PlayStation 5 cover and controller based on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 separately without needing to purchase a new console.
  • Unlike the exclusive console for its predecessor, this limited edition PlayStation 5 will be more customizable and will begin pre-orders by 28th July.

At the San Diego Comic-Con, Insomniac officially uncovered the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2-themed PlayStation 5 console and controller, also revealing that if you already own one you don’t have to buy the whole thing again. As per the dev, you can just order the console covers and controllers for the upcoming adventure game separately and don’t have to buy another PS5, allowing you to customize to your liking and saving you money.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 developer Insomniac Games announced all of this and much more during its exclusive panel at the San Diego Comic-Con. According to the developer, the exclusive console based on the title will be a limited edition, just like its DualSense controller. However, unlike the exclusive PS4 for 2018’s Spider-Man, you don’t have to buy a new PlayStation 5 to get the full web-slinging experience.

On the PlayStation Store, players can buy the detachable console face plates and DualSense controller based on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 separate from the PS5. Even though this offer is extremely cost-effective, you’ll have to wait a little bit to make use of it as pre-orders for the console, controller, and face plates don’t being until July 28th. Besides the limited edition console reveal, Insomniac also revealed a lot of other info about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 at the San Diego Comic-Con. First up, the developer announced that the infamous J Jonah Jameson will be running the Daily Bugle in the adventure title and none other than Mary Jane will be working under the Spider-Man hater, with Laura Bailey saying she “comes into her own as a reporter” during the game.

In addition, Miles will get to face off against one of the 2018 prequel’s biggest villains, Mr. Negative in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, with the devs saying this encounter is “forced to happen.” Venom was also given a lot of limelight during the panel, with fans getting a look at the character’s new concept art. Moreover, the character’s voice actor, Tony Todd, also said that playing Venom had been his most exciting voice journey until now.

Considering how Insomniac hyped up the character at SDCC by saying he will have a “Joyous quality in his destruction,” we can see why Todd thinks that. Last but not least, the story trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 also debuted during the panel, with fans getting their first look at Harry Osborn and the Venom symbiote in action as you can see below.

May’s PlayStation Showcase gameplay already set high expectations and this panel has only increased the anticipation for the upcoming game. With instant switching between Miles and Peter, three different skill trees, and the possibility of Carnage it’s easy to see why players are excited. Only time will tell how the game performs when it comes out on October 20, 2023, but judging by how popular its trailers are, it will break some records.
