The Coalition Opens Job Vacancy For New Gears Of War Game

The job listing is followed by a rumor about The Coalition working on Gears Of War 6.

Story Highlights

  • The Coalition has opened a job listing for Gears Of War.
  • The job listing follows a number of rumors about the next Gears Of War game.
  • A previous job listing and an industry expert have hinted towards the development of Gears Of War 6.

The Coalition has listed a job posting that clearly indicates the studio is working on the development of the next possible entry in the Gears Of War franchise. Gears Of War is inarguably a respected franchise, and since the last entry in the series was in 2019, fans might already be looking forward to a sequel.

The job listing states, “Senior Gameplay Designer – Gears of War – The Coalition.” Pretty much from the title that The Coalition is seriously and actually working for a new game in the franchise.

The skills you require to be a desired applicant for the job are “experience in Character, Camera, and Controls (the 3 C’s), or artificial intelligence (AI) systems”, furthermore, experience owning large-scale features and guiding them from initial concept through to polish and completion.”

All of that is distinctly the core characteristic of Gears Of War. Moreover, to further confirm, The Coalition introduces the job listing with a clear message about the studio all set for the next Gears game. The job listing opens as:

The Coalition is a Microsoft first-party development studio located in Vancouver, Canada. We are the official home of the Gears of War franchise, and our objective is to forge the future of the IP and push the limits of Microsoft’s entertainment platforms and devices.”

What further confirms the existence of the next Gears game is industry insider Jeff Grubb announcing in his show Game Mess Mornings just a month ago that The Coalition had shelved two of their projects. According to Jeff, the studio’s sole focus is Gears Of War 6.

Moreover, this job listing is followed by a previous job listing by The Coalition for the Gears Of War game back in July 2022. That listing was for Lead Mission Designer. As the current listing is for Lead Gameplay Designer, we can assume that the studio has taken some far steps in the development of the game.

There has been a lot of noise about Gears of War 6 recently. On February 21, 2023, Gears Of War 2 writer Joshua Ortega hinted through his Twitter handle that he might return for Gears Of War 6. All this collectively leads to very strong speculation about The Coalition’s next plans.

Since its acquisition by Microsoft in 2014, the two mainline entries in the franchise are 2016’s Gears Of War 4 and 2019’s Gears Of War 5, and a spin-off, Gear Tactics, that came out in 2020. For an original sequel, the time might be here. However, we will wait for an official announcement from the studio.

In May 2021, The Coalition announced that they are working on transitioning to next-gen development, but the announcement for new games will take some time. From that, we can assume that for Gears Of War 6, the studio might take some additional years to announce the title finally.

There have been additional rumors that the Gears Of War remastered collection is in the works, so it can’t be said concretely about which version The Coalition is currently working on.

Furthermore, Netflix has also announced that they plan to release a number of Gears Of War projects. This includes a live-action Gears Of War film and an adult animated series.
